a true vw renaissance man , loved vintage, loved aircooled , watercooled, porsche and appreciated all things automotive. hebmuller, romescth ,split window,356, cal look, berg ,empi, bug ins dick dale surfer music, FTBs and bmx bikes. you knew him here as scooby . he was the lightening rod for the vw scene in the comox valley since the early 90s and pushed me to help him develop the valley vee dub club and ultimately the island bug jam. a true craftsman , he knew what "straight* was and how to get it and always helped his vw pals get better results. he had a split window westie and a highly modified mark 7 golf R fighting for the same garage space at the same time . his property was coated with vws, believe me , every available space. a cheerful and friendly man , he had friends and friends forever, something that was apparent when you traveled with him to different events and it seemed he knew everybody there. up and down the coast he would hit all the big events for years and as always bring back stories and swag and pics. his next big adventure was the big European sweep including Bad Camberg but alas it was not to be as his heart had different plans. he was my best vw friend , this one really hurts.....

Oh no! So sorry to hear this :-( Gone far too young...my condolences to you, mitchy, and the rest of his family/vw family.
I only met him a few times, sold him a couple of early Mk 1 Siroccos...I knew they were going to a good home.
RIP Rhuari

If you hear any news about a service, or celebration of life, do post up the details, yeah?

Geez Mitch, so sorry to hear this. Very unexpected! I met Rhuari a few times and he did resonate genuine VW energy for sure. Not too long ago I bought some VW parts from him. After talking about his ongoing projects with him, he was potentially interested in my 68 Bus beam for his Splitty Westy, I just hadn't got back to him due to life circumstances. I always felt there'd be time and I was looking forward to talking with him some more. Turns out I was wrong. Sh*t! I echo Chris' thoughts, please keep us posted.

I did not know him; not sure if I ever actually met him. But it always hurts to lose someone big in the VW scene. RIP.

i.imgur.com/Pmlf9TGh.jpgRhuari was over here a few times last time a couple months ago and he showed me pictures of a pan that he has he had been working on for the 61 beetle project I donated a tank. His home is on the island highway and for years I have been gearing my car down into third and just booting it down the straight stretch passed his house and I will carry on with that salute to Rhuari.

so it turns out that Rhauri did not want a formal service. we have decided to have a very casual get together at the courtenay whitespot (beside lordco) on Dec 12 between 11and 1. many thanks to cousin Don for the header photo.
