WOW! Thanks for posting that vintage VW porn. Those logo'ed Barn Door Single Cabs and Buses are Bitchin! I must have a different definition of that than Dave Kindig. The Bugs are cool too. I think I had to wipe a bit of drool from the corner of my mouth after clicking thru those, LOL!

Chris, those pictures are awesome! Part of Speedway's archives??? Would it be ok for me to copy those and save them to be viewed directly here???

Not just here. They'd be well received on thesamba. I bet you'd get a roaring response if you posted them in the Split Bus threads.

By all means, save away. I contacted the OP on Reddit, and his wife worked for Speedway 20 years ago. The boss, (Roy, he figures) knew he was into photography, so he passed on these old slides, and buddy had just re-discovered the the old shoe box full.

Cool. Here they come! Mmmm, biscuits! It really doesn't get much cooler than that, does it??? This deluxe is not brand new and might be a '54 era. Note no signals, so is a semaphore car. Don is drooling at all those brand new commercial VWs. Not much colour variety, is there??? Just washed and ready to go to work. And likely worked to death like most single cabs... I remember eating at Paul's when I was a kid. A tradition when visiting Victoria... VW was doing exceptionally well with the commercial vehicles back then. One of several companies that bought more than one... Odd paint scheme. Too new to be rusted out! Look at the size of those rear wheel wells!!! Love the colour of these. Wonder which company that was??? Continued...

I betcha the hippies bought that one a decade or so later... Mmm, ice cream too. And more ice cream! Wonder if this company later became Island Farms??? Look closely and this is a Canadian Standard in Strato Silver. My favourite VW colour of them all! Don would like those all white wheels. Give me two-tones any day! With trim rings and whitewalls! Love the signage on this one. How cool would it be to find that today? That guy is proud of his shiny VW. Special order black paint, no doubt... And yet another Strato Silver Canadian Standard. The Standards were pretty popular back then. My uncle, who was a life-long Victoria resident had a brown Standard oval and apparently he loved it! And for the record all these photos appeared to have been taken around 1955-56. Awesome, and thanks to Chris for sharing them with us!

There is not a vehicle there that I wouldn't like to own. The Speedway barn door truck is particularly fantastic. I wonder if any of these vehicles have survived?
Thanks to Chris for posting them and to Russ for copying them across to our site.

Just washed and ready to go to work. And likely worked to death like most single cabs... I wonder if this one ever got a BAPCO rebuild? This is one very cool Barn Door Single Cab. Note no rear bumper, front pressed bumper, semaphores(no turn signals), and 16 inch rims. I'd probably give more than my eye teeth for this truck..... In a perfect world this would have survived, but like Russ says, it was probably sadly worked to death.
