Who are these bugjam people? The Valley Vee Dub Club. I am a member and part of the planning team. Some other members are also long time members of the forum. Come to the Bug Jam and meet me and all the rest. Or we meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at Tim's by Superstore in Courtenay.

Burgers at the dealership was good the most beautiful busses in the cruise that I have ever seen. Never made it to the island bug jam. I always take up the caboose in the cruise with tools, a fire extinguisher, oil and coolant. If you were flagging me down I would have stopped! I guess I will add a small Gerry can to my cruise equipment. This year we have a map, written directions and a google maps link you can follow on your phone and a 1/2 way rallying point so hopefully getting lost won't be too much of a concern.

Here's some more of the 2022 Bug Jam info in image form...(if this works - thanks PICTUP)! Hey Geotonz, Just a hint on the pics from Imgur, try clicking the "huge thumbnail" or "large thumbnail" before copying and pasting to make sure your pics will fit on a regular size screen. That way we don't have to go back and forth with a mouse or mousepad to see the whole poster side to side. Scrolling up and down isn't usually a problem Wish I could make it... Cheers, Don PS About that (G)Jerry Can :

I would not be needing any coolants but lucky there was a farmer sitting there on lawn tractor that went and gave me 5 gallons of marked for free.

Rob and Reagh will be coffee loading at Tim Horton's in Parksville, and leaving at 8:30am for Courtenay Bug Show. We will be taking the old/slow/scenic highway. Ottobus will be gathered up at the Shell gas station (Qualicum Beach) then cruise the shoreline drive to the show. Everyone is welcome to join the convoy...cheers. I'll see you there!

I went and it was good. Had some troubles on the way up. Found my alternator pully retaining nut stripped. Luckily our Crazy Brit Mark stopped and had a spare. I did have to limp home but traded out to a stock pully and was on my way up pretty quickly. Thanks Mark! No pictures I just can never manage to take any. I have a hard drive full of video I may eventually get posted.

It was a great show, but without doubt, the best part was cruising there and back. I was a little bit late meeting up with the gang in Parksville after finding Rob on the side of the highway as he mentioned above. I have pretty much half an engine stuffed under the rear seat in my bus as I have found in the past that folks like BCAA don't carry parts for cars this age anymore and I don't like being towed. It gives my wife way too much ammo about why old VWs are unreliable.... I basically carry spares of all of the little things that tend to fail unexpectedly and that will leave you stranded when they do! For the cruise up there was Reagh in his Notch, Hightop Rob in his Square, Greg in his '69 Beetle, Brian in his new (Russ's old) Bus and me in my good old 57 Split. Unfortunately Reagh and Rob ran away early. I'm told that they were suffering from a lack of food due to the crazy long lines at the food trucks. For the run back south it was just Rob in his stunning '56 oval, Greg and me. I don't often say this about other guys, but I was a bit disappointed to lead the gang home, because the view of Rob's rear end was quite something cruising down the old highway! It was the first longish drive I have done in the bus in a long time! It ran fairly well, although it does have a bit of a hesitation when I plant my foot on the gas pedal. In fact it hesitates even if I gently caress the gas pedal. Rob has suggested that it needs some adjustment of the accelerator pumps. I tried this today and further adjustment will be required. The only minor annoyance of the day was when a northbound truck fired a rock into my driver's windscreen in Qualicum on the way home. It sounded like a gunshot inside the bus, but thankfully it only chipped the glass. You can see the chips that it left in line with the headrest below. It was a large rock - the distance between the chips was around 3/4", which gives some indication of the size of the rock. I was doing around 50kph at the time. Thankfully it wasn't 80kph or I would have probably lost my windscreen. I did take a few pic's at the show, but spent a lot of time talking to people rather than concentrating on photo's. Sorry, I missed photographing most of the Bugs and all of the modern stuff. Darren and Mitch's Beetles A very nice 356 notch T6. I think it may have been a 1963. It wasn't concours, but was in great condition and looked like it would be a fantastic driver. I really liked this 1965 Ghia. It had received a lot of work from what I could tell, but it looked well done to me. It won best "unique VW", a class covering Ghias, T3s, Buggies etc. One side of the Bus lineup. There were a lot of Splits there. The Bays were very under represented this time, although Brian's set the bar very high. A couple of buses that looked familiar... One of the benefits of having a RHD bus is that you can park opposite friends with the vehicles pointing the same way and with the side doors facing each other. I was really digging Brian's fantastic DIY awning. It is really, really well done! This retro early 1980's Porker turned up late morning. It was very nicely done. It will not be a surprise to many that I liked this one - a lot. If only the prices would drop a little. I was a bit on the fence about going to this show for some reason. It was the first VW show for me since the COVID mess began and I really wasn't feeling the need to go to one this year. That is until I arrived at Tim's in Parksville and joined the cruise up. Then spending the day catching up with folks I hadn't spoken to in person in three years made the day. Thank you to the Comox / Courtenay crowd for organising this show. If I'm not working next year I'll be there for the cruise and the show. It was a day well spent!
