Hi Volks I am on the hunt for new front tires for my 56. It is a evolving cal looker but the 135's on the front of the 56 are old exspensive and offer very little contact patch, great for going in a straight line but not so good for turning. I have seen some lowered cars recently with a 175/65/R15 tire in front. I'm wondering if anyone on this site has any experience with the 175 tire? My car has a narrowed beam and the 135 tires tuck in quite a bit even with the dropped spindles and disk brakes. The cars at the last couple shows I have seen are plenty low and look great but I haven't been able to chat with the owners about their setups. Any input will be appreciated.

I would like to replace my old 135's Michelins but they make contact with my snub screw and nut when hard over no damage to the tire in 23 years no drop spindle no narrowing so rim offset is one thing I could look at. Neighbor has some smart car tires that he has offered me to try do they still sell them don't know the sizes fronts and backs are different but wider I also have a set of offset rims I could try. I am thinking of going to OK Tire here in CR and get Jason there to pick one to try they are good people. The 135's make a horrible spare they are narrower than the rim and scratch the gas tank bad when under the hood yet a 165 won't fit under the hood in the well

I run 185/65 all around on both my bus and Ghia. Both are stock height. I like them for cornering and having a decent contact patch on the road. They are a bit firmer than the standard height VW ones though and give a firmer ride. They are of a similar diameter to a 155/80/15, which was original fitment for my KG.

The car parked next to yours is camplug's, or Gord the plumber's, wife's car. PMing him on the site may or may not get a reply...

I've had 195/50s on my front since I built the car in 1991. Stock width beam, stock spindles, dual lowering adjusters.

I have a different set of wheels on my bug. Found these ones over on the mainland chased them through 2 owners but finally got 5 BRM replica wheels 2 with 135s for the front and 205/65s for the back and a new spare. Luckily I was also given a matching set to the back of 175/60R15s that I will have my son swap them with the 135s on the front for me. He works at cedar tire. I will update once the 175/60s are on the car.

Yup. My original vision for the first '66 was BRMs and Bahama Blue paint. Then later it was Sea Blue, but still with BRMs. Always liked the look of those...
