I think everyone likes a "feel-good" event, and that is what we have always tried to gear this one towards. One needs not to have a "show car" to attend, it is one's participation that is important! Cheers, Don PS Poster is now on the banner, please feel free to share the info everyone.

Everything has been organized now, and the weather is looking good! We have at least a hundred door prizes to give away as well as some cool event stickers too! As in the past, the rules are simple. You must register your car, and you get a ticket. Hang onto that ticket, because it is valid for both the regular door prizes, AND is also valid for the grand prize draw at the very end of the event. We have had some very cool items donated, people, and you will not want to miss out. And as previously mentioned, this is all FREE!!! Registration will be quick, as I am collecting basic information about your car so I can match this with the photos I intend to take later. This is intended to be a laid back event, and we hope you will all enjoy!

It was a very successful event, and everyone there seemed pretty happy. We registered 51 vehicles in the show, and there were some other cars that stopped briefly but did not register. Lets say around 60 cars were there. Everyone got a door prize, and four lucky individuals went home with nice grand prize collections. Pictures should be up tomorrow...

A big thanks to the staff Bavarian Imports Auto Repairs(Klynt, Jeff, Russ, Riley, and Noah)for providing the venue for another successful event. Also many thanks to those who put their efforts into the event jobs such as Registration/Pics(Russ), Giveaway/Raffle organization(Reagh and Rob) and MCing(Brent). It all went pretty well I think . After working hard all yesterday taking care of registration and pics, then today having to work on VWs at the very shop where Bavarianfest was held Russ needs a bit of time to get all those pics posted. So, for all of you anxious to see some pics, here are a few general shots of the event. Russ will have a fully detailed list soon. I think I parked them a bit tight(we were anticipating more, so next year I plan to space everything out a bit more), but all the air cooled cars look pretty cool together, don't you think? The first arriving yellow cars all wanted to be together. All different yellows all different types, all very nice! The yard was a great place for all to hang and catch up with friends, or make new ones. Always great to put faces to names we might only have seen here. Outside held a few surprises too My Single Cab served as the table for the Giveaway collection where everyone with a car was able to choose what they went home with after their ticket number was called. The Grand Prizes were split into 2 Air Cooled and 2 Water Cooled in Reagh's Double Cab and once people received their giveaway from the Single Cab, they had to choose if they were Air of Water inclined That's about it from me. Thanks to all that attended, it was great to get to meet some of you for the first time, and catch up with others I haven't seen in a while! Cheers, Don

Well here we go... It was off to an early start and I was making sure everyone got registered and received their tickets with Brian's help. Once this was done it was time to take some pics. And first up is my '62 Beetle, just because. My boss Jeff got to drive it earlier, and his comment was he forgot how slow the 40 horse 1200 cc engines really are... Think that is just another '70's Beetle? Think again. Vincent's bright red bug is a 2002 Mexi-Beetle, from the second to last year of production. Original features include disc brakes, swingaxle rear suspension, Digifant type fuel injection, factory alarm system, and a plush interior. This car has only 20,000 km on it and is like driving a brand new old Beetle! It is for sale too, and if I had the funds it would certainly be mine! That interior is all stock and original. It was fun playing spot the part that VW used in other models over the years... Another red Beetle, but this one sure ain't stock! Rainer's '66 is very special, as you can see he has built a mid-engine conversion Bug! I did not have a chance to talk to him about it, but I hope others did and can explain all the modifications. Like those VW Marathon rims as well... And HighTopRob brought his daily driver, my old Diamond Blue '69 Fastback. Rob did a lot of tricky welding and other work to bring it up to a good reliable standard and it looks great! He has added a few stickers as well for a good cause. Agree with them all! John brought down a special '56 Beetle. This one had a LOT of things done too it including a monster motor with EFI. No wheezy 36er in this thing! This car was once the property of comedian Tim Allen, so that makes it even more cool! Dave brought down another '56, this one slammed with a dose of patina! And yet another '56, this time Rob S' shiny black Beetle. Always a sweet car and Rob is always tweaking it in some way. Rick showed up in his sweet '67 on BRM's. Always liked those rims and would have put them on my old '66 if I had kept it... Note The Dude in the background, doing what he does best... Continued...

Ben cruised in with his very original Ruby Red '63 Deluxe. Nice to see it out. Gregg is rocking the Anthracite '69 as usual. The car has earlier fenders and and bumpers to give it the earlier look. He drives this thing all over the place! Pierre has owned this '61 Beetle for some time, and I always like to see it. The colour is unusual, but looks good on this VW. It was not all VWs, though. John showed up with his very rare 1958 Lloyd Alexander T/S. An interesting vehicle that is not roadworthy yet, but he hopes to get it there. Has a funky little two cylinder air-cooled four stroke engine. Think he said it was around 28 horsepower! John had a good day as he was one of the four grand prize winners, too! Rob has owned this '59 Canadian Standard Beetle for some time, and restored it himself from a rusty wreck. Nice work! Continued...

Darrell and Linda rolled in with their classy '65 Cabriolet. You don't see that many early convertibles around, and it is a treat to see this one... Darren brought his patinaed '64 Deluxe, and he loves this car very much just the way it is. As usual poor Darren was overwhelmed with upholstery type questions. Maybe he could make clones of himself... Damon's bright yellow Beetle is a '73, but is disguised with earlier decklid, bumpers, and taillights. Looked good! Now let's look at some buses! Andrew's 1955 panel is very cool as it is an original sign written commercial bus! He did a TON of work to this VW to get it looking this good. And of course it is the most desired "barndoor" version, which refers to that huge engine compartment lid in the back. These early buses did not have opening rear hatches. Pretty wild where the spare tire (16") is stored, along with the internal fuel tank and filler. What a sweet machine! Chris brought his '72 Westfalia down, and he has spent the last couple of years doing a LOT of work to his bus by himself. Nice! Chris was also the lucky recipient of one of the grand prize draws as well. All set up for the afternoon tea... Or a big mug of Sanka... Haven't heard of that stuff in years... Another '72 Westfalia, this time a white one owned by Roger. Another bus that is constantly being improved. The Westy interiors were always nice.. Continued...

I also brought the mighty '74 Restfalia. We have been together for 22 years now, and there is no way I will ever part with it. Just too many memories... For anyone that might not know, this bus was converted when new to a Riviera Camper, and then I spliced in a full Westfalia interior from a '77. Also runs the '77 2 litre engine, six rib trans, and stock EFI. Just the way I like it... Now a bit of water-cooled goodness. The mark 3 Golf GTI's were nice cars when new, but had a tendency to not age well. This one brought in by Brian and Keisha, bucked that trend and is a very rare survivor. This one had the long lasting leather interior. The cloth seat versions fell apart quickly back in the day. The VR6 version was certainly the one to have. Make nice sounds when you rev them up... Stacey brought her '84 Cabriolet to the show. This car was one that was stored for a very long time, and needed significant mechanical work to the fuel system to get it up and running again. Don't let them sit, people. Stacey also was one of the grand prize winners, so she was quite happy as well... My '92 GTI 16v has not seen much action this year. Hope to drive it a few more times before it is put away for the season. Always makes me smile when I take it out for a boot... I really like this '92 white Jetta brought in by Cole and Taylor. When starting with Bavarian, we worked on these cars all day, every day. One of VW's best vehicles they ever made. This was once his Grandmother's car. She was a previous customer and took fastidious care of the Jetta. Glad it is in good hands! First generation Golfs (or Rabbits), are thin on the ground these days. Kyle arrived in his sweet two-tone 1982 version. For something a bit different, I also brought my '66 Corvair Monza with the 140 hp air-cooled flat six in the back. Well they were referred to as the "American Volkswagen" you know... It was nice to see Terry make the trip down in his Java Green '65 Beetle. He has had this car for a long time and I doubt he will ever part with it either! Another very long term owner is Robie, and his '74 SuperBeetle with the very sweet paintjob. He won't ever part with this one either... Jeff's Anthracite '62 was in storage for decades before he got his mitts on it. Lots of people have wanted to buy it, but his Dad is the lucky new owner... Gary and Sue brought their yellow '65 Ghia down to the show. Interesting car with an interesting past. The low-light Ghia front certainly catches your eye. Continued...
