My parents had to wait until the new 1958 model came in before they could buy their first Beetle off the showroom floor in 1957 in Vancouver. From what I was told it was actually the one that was in the dealership that everyone had sat in.

I am surprised by the omission of the Type 14 (lets call it "normal" Karmann Ghia). The Type 34 was never sold in the US, so its exclusion is OK given what the commercial is about... Volkswagen probably did not include the regular Karmann Ghia because they do not have anything as cool as that in their current lineup...
