Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 6 volt split bus starter motor bolt and the later 12 volt Type 1 bolts? CIP1 shows one bolt from 1950 through to 1971, but that doesn't necessarily mean that VW didn't do things differently! The flat side of the bolt that I have does not lock out against the starter motor on the original transmission for my '57 bus, which is going to make installing the engine bolts a 2 person affair and a complete PITA. Thanks!

Over the years I've run across a lot of the regular bolts with a piece of approx. 1/4 inch diameter rod stock welded to the head of the bolt and sticking out about an inch or so it catches on something so you don't need a team of people , I'll see if I can find one around here and send a pic!

Thanks Tony. I am wondering if mine is a repro' one. If they can't make engine tin that fits, it's reasonable to expect that they can't make engine bolts that work either!
