Hi folks, this is the holy grail of my engine tune up this year. My '73 bus runs fine when warm, but the driver side choke isn't working. It's open all the time. The right side one is working fine and is enough to baby it to get to idle after a few minutes. This is a spare I have in the picture. I understand the concept of turning the choke to adjust after loosening the 3 screws that hold the element in place, but I think there is something else wrong with mine. Maybe the element is done. Any advice?

Was the hook on the choke element engaged properly with the tab on the choke shaft linkage? Is there 12 volts to the choke element? Was it way out of adjustment? You could reassemble the unit to the carb, hook up a battery positive to the element, and the negative to the carb body and watch and see if it will open. Elements can fail, but it is not that common.

Thanks Russ. I guess I'll have to open up the element and have a look. The picture as I mentioned is of a spare carb. I had the actual ones on my '73 bus professionally rebuilt in 2010 with low miles on them so far. Something must have failed in there. Maybe it is the element. I need to understand how it fits together, stay tuned.
