Ok so it was a beautiful day yesterday, and we drove the bus out to Cedar to trek down to Cable bay. Everything was going fine until approaching the Cedar bridge. Looking beyond to the intersection, I noted that the Dodge truck sitting there waiting for traffic to clear, was likely going to cut me off as I approached. I was not exactly putt-putting along, but Mr. Dodge figured "I can pull out in front of that old VW bus because it is probably full of stoned hippies". I had my foot ready to brake but the Dodge made it across the road in adequate time. The incredibly stupid cyclist behind him however, came close to getting hit as he decided to cut me off too! On a damn bicycle!!! What the hell is wrong with other road users when they see an old Volkswagen bus? People will always assume you are barely moving and ALWAYS pull out in front of me despite my speed! They NEVER do this to me when driving my tired old Chevy truck. Never! I really think seeing an old VW turns other road users brains off! Does it happen to everyone else, or just ME!

Must be those fatty white-lettered tires you have Yes, when I am in the Echo or any AC VW people pull out in front of me. When in the FJ Cruiser or when I was in the FJ45 people haven't acted like idiots either. My Iltis usually has people so stunned that they just want to figure out what is approaching

I disagree. It seems to me that many road users these days are idiots and have little idea of how to drive. I see it on my bike regularly - like the moron who overtook me, then slowed to turn right, began the right turn and then realised that they had just passed a cyclist. They stopped half way around the right turn directly in front of me. I now have two additional flat spots on my tyres. I'm very capable of falling off my bike without assistance!
It happens in my Matrix and Tacoma as well. The difference is that those cars have modern suspension, brakes and really wide tyres that allow me to swerve or stop with a little less drama. I seem to encounter morons even more frequently if I am towing my trailer. I've lost count of the number of times someone has overtaken me, pulled in close in front and then hit the brakes to turn off the road in question... with a truck towing a 29' trailer bearing down on their backside. I'm glad I don't drive a semi. I think I would fit bullbars and have some fun!
And, has anyone else noticed how the turn signals on most modern cars are faulty? Why is it that people indicate which lane they are moving into after they have already started changing lanes? What is the point in starting your turn signal after you have already crossed two lanes and stopped at the traffic lights?
Then there are the yachties out on the water who like to make close inspections of the bow of my ship.... That's another story / rant!
