I am not the bus guru like Don... But have a few buses in my collection... Here is my "flawed" Matchbox splitty. It is the weird looking version with the top up. The body is in great shape but the interior is not because it isn't there. As the chassis still is riveted firmly in place, this example never received an interior. Does this feature make it priceless??? Try worthless, and that is why I bought it cheaply years ago... I think everyone who ever had Matchbox as a kid had this van. I still have my original from when I was a kid but it was well used. Got this one years ago and it is mint. Yeah it probably cost too much, but I couldn't say no. A reoccurring issue in my life... Here is a couple of more.... The green rubbery one is one of my tubby toys from waaaay back! Who needs boats??? The paint challenged split is a '60's Corgi I got at a swapmeet decades ago. I didn't buy the snowflake taillight at the same swapmeet for $2 though!!! One more... Found these tiny plastic cars I forgot I had. Intended for train sets, these things are a bit crude but are accurate in the cars they depict. Made by Bachmann from Hong Kong. And here are the reasons for showing this, a couple of deluxe microbuses in very drab colours. Betcha even Don doesn't have these!!!

Here are a few more from the toy collection...
This unlikely combo was given to my by one of my Brazilian students a few years ago. She looked up our house on Google street and saw my orange bus parked in the driveway. And this is what she brought as a present! Manufactured by Cararama, I think these are easy to find on-line.
And here we have an early Bay. These are made by Kovap in the Czech Republic and are copies of an earlier model (Don knows what brand). Several versions are available and are actually a very nice quality tin plate in about 1/43 scale. Also found on-line.
Another view...
Now this is one of my favourites: Made by MINICHAMPS, this bus is quite close to what my Riviera looks like. I think Don located this for me as well as the Kovap above. And like many European models, they got the year wrong as usual. This is most certainly not a 1972 model year bus. The high mount turn signals and heavy bumpers indicate a '73...
Or not... That fuel filler without a "door", is 1974 model year and later which is OK because that is the same year as mine! This is a very high quality model in 1/43 scale and was not cheap...

Well as some of you know, I have a bit of a toy addiction. Mostly I have been trying to find Bay Window Bus toys, but there aren't a ton around. Especially old ones. So, something else I kind of like are hard to find other Bus(mostly Splitty) toys. In my displays that I have shown at a couple of VW Shows, I have a kind of progression of sorts. And that is from wind up thru electric remote control to radio control. It is kind of neat to think about, well for me anyway I am going to borrow Russ' pics here…In the top of this case there is a fairly early wind up Bus and Bug set. Wind them up and they run in a circle once you set the wheels and release the brake. All are tin toys, pressed into shape much in the same way panels are made for the real vehicles. A close up of one of my DUX Buses made in Western Germany: Then later in the 60's DUX began to make plastic toys and put electric motors on them powered by batteries in a controller. That way the kid could drive them around on the hardwood, and later linoleum floors In the lower part of the case above is the most recent evolution, if you will, of the electric motored VW Toy, and that is the Radio Control…a Herbie Bug from Germany in this instance. Recently I was fortunate to find a Bus model that I have been hunting for some time: a Taiyo RC VW Bus, in about 1:24th scale and straight from Japan! Crappy pic, sorry. I can't break the plastic seal, but I want to!! Arrrrgh! Check out the stats on this puppy, lol! Hmmmmm

They are some pretty cool spec's. I wish mine was capable of 230 km/hr... Then again, that would be scary!!!

Here is another bus that was given to me by one of our German students. It is as close to a "hightop" that you will find. This is an early bay replica of a German Postal bus and an accurate representative of the real vehicles built by VW. The high roof was made of fibreglass on these versions. And no Rob, you still can't have it!
This was given to me by another of our Brazilian students. Interesting in that both occupants are obviously drunk and driving!

Here is another relatively recent addition to the VW collection. This very heavy 1/18 scale bus is made by Greenlight, and is a 1971 model. They have a few different versions at this time, based on specific buses in movies. This one is the "Little Miss Sunshine" version. The general details of the bus are quite good.
The proportions are decent as well. Greenlight also makes a rusty version from the "Lost" TV series. They also make a version for "The Field of Dreams" which is kind of dirty and beat up as the real one in the movie. This version is different and replicates a late bay bus. Unfortunately Greenlight screwed up some details and the late bay version is not as well done as the early bay. Oh well, I am sure they will eventually bring out a Westfalia version, and that would be cool, wouldn't it??

So HighTopRob has had great success in putting together an interesting collection of VW toys. Here are a couple of pictures he sent me recently... Some of these are Gama's, including the Esso Safari bus. The grey one is a Wiking, the small white 1/66 scale bus is a Schuco, as is the wind up Beetle. Cool stuff, Rob!

So for my birthday awhile ago, my Mom found me a couple of items... The red and white split bus is quite nice. I believe they sold these at the dealership, but she got it in Coombs. Wouldn't it be cool if they made these in late baywindow Westfalia versions???

So HighTopRob has turned into quite the savvy VW toy collector and has found many goodies... This is a 1/43 scale Bosch liveried bus is an early Tekno from Denmark. Very cool!

Oops, looks like the Bosch logo on the rear barndoor(as these represent the Barndoor Bus era)decklid is 90° to what it should be. Other than that, nice example. The later Tekno Buses have the fresh air intake over the windshield(s) and the castings are more "realistic", or "scale" (might be the better term).

Check out this! I have not built a model in years, but look what Revell of Germany has just released! Yes FINALLY, instead of yet another splittie model, we get an actual Bay Window version in 1/24 scale. This is pretty cool, as bay window models have been pretty much non-existent. The detail is quite nice for what is considered to be a basic "snap-together" model kit. And it is in my favourite Brilliant Orange as well. And surprisingly it contains a Type 4 engine, somewhat unexpected in a Euro-Spec bus. Tom will like the fact it is actually a 1973 version as well. Nice to see a "late-bay" as well. If only it was a campervan... Oh wait. Really???!!! Apparently that is available too. Well you just know I am going to get one of each and make an orange "Restfalia" out of that somehow! These kits are new, and are hard to find in quantity at the moment. And you know they will be pretty $$$ as well. Even basic model kits nowadays are damn expensive! But you just know I gotta have these!!!
