There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about accelerator/throttle cable replacement for Type 2s out there. Some say if it isn't broken, tape the old one to the new one and pull it through. I have a cable that is down to a couple of strands between the firewall and the throttle linkage, though I think it's been like that for a long time. However, it must be replaced, and I think this should be something I can do. Are there any tips or tricks?

Here's a picture looking from drivers to passenger side behind the twin Solex carbs. It doesn't look as bad as I thought, but you can distinctly see a twisted piece of cable strand is sticking out. It seems a bit thinner heading into the firewall. Is there supposed to be some sort of tube to guide it through? To the best of my memory I think it's been like this for a few years, it might have been like that after a garage cable install.

This is underneath the front floor pan with the gravel guard off looking up from the passenger's to driver's side at the gas pedal mechanism. Do they all look like this, and is that a stock bolt?

Thanks Paul, here's a pic from the sight you linked to. It shows the stock set up, which kinda looks like mine. What do you think?

I'll have to chalk this one up to an early and late bay differences.
Sorry I mislead you.

No not at all, I think we had the same initial reaction, it does look kind of primitive compared to some of the aftermarket offerings. Would be great to upgrade
