I know this can be considered a rather trivial issue, but I like shiny hubcaps and thought I would share how I get them there What they often look like(minus the polishing cloth ) Using Turtle Wax Rubbing compound on a damp cloth and a bunch of elbow grease this results The backside looked like this So my OCD(correctly identified by Mitch) kicked in and I wire brushed and sanded it After a quick tape and paint(yes, over chrome, but it is just the backside )

I am surprised you didn't paint that VW symbol on the inside of the hubcap white!

I have found the wooden mallet I turned in boat school to be just the ticket for getting "pop" dents out Tony. Of course I haven't achieved perfection, but they look a lot better. The dents caused by something like a curb are a bit different and I don't think the chrome will ever look the same, but they can be made to be a lot less noticeable.

Something to try on light rust like that is tinfoil and coke (the beverage). Sets up a nice little chemical reaction and leaves the chrome looking nice and chromey.

Hi Clay, Welcome to the site, glad to have you here! So would one just pour some Coke into a container, add some tin foil, then pour it on the chrome? Does one have to try and leave the liquid on the chrome? Or maybe I am not thinking big enough, does one immerse the hubcap in the mixture? How much aluminum foil and how much Coke? Thanks! Don

Crumple up a chunk of tinfoil, dip it into the cola so it's dripping, then rub it on the chrome like you're polishing it. The inside of hubcaps like that is a great place to experiment.

Sounds like a great trick to try out. How on earth did you discover that one though? Diet or regular?
