Is anyone planning to make a Volkswagen presence at the Parksville show this Sunday? I'm going to be going and will likely be driving the Ghia up there.
Anyone interested in cruising up together?

Are you entering the show? We are getting a new student late Saturday night. We will see if she is interested, but we would only be visiting the show, not entering this time...

Not necessarily. If others were entering, then I would enter the Ghia, but it's not really in show condition anyway. It would be more fun to take a drive up in company. Perhaps we could go for a little cruise somewhere afterwards?
What time are you thinking of heading up there?

Thanks for suggesting the show Mark, and thanks to Russ for giving me a lift up there. It was a fun day with lots of scenery, some of it cars Awesome work representing the venerable VW with your sweet clean Ghia Stan and Laurie

It was a great day, but sadly lacking on the VW front. As always, Stan's Ghia was looking great. Mine was sat in the car park....

So a few of us did go up to Parksville to check out the show. As you might expect, the majority were hot rods and muscle cars, most owned by "white-tops". We did find one VW present however...
Stan and his wife and kids showed up with his Ghia which was looking nice as always...
This big old GMC 4x4 belonged to Stans buddy and it had a very interesting history. His friend fixed it all up and then sold it at an auction in Calgary years ago. About 15 years later, he spotted the same truck for sale on Craigslist and was able to buy it back for the same price. When he went to register it he got a large surprise... The guy that bought it at the auction all those years ago took it home and never drove it or registered it at all. Stan's friend was still the legal owner, it still had BC plates on it, so all he had to do was re-insure it! Cool.
Of course there were piles of Camaros, Chevelles, and Vettes as usual.
Victor liked this old Chevy II. I didn't see any old American iron that did much for me.
There was a large presence by a car club that specialized in Japanese cars, including lots of JDM stuff (Japanese Domestic Market) which are all right hand drives. Victor drooled over the Nissan 350 above.
I like cars that are different from everyone else's, so this Nissan Silvia caught my eye. Apparently the owner bought the wheels first that were painted that colour, then had the car repainted to match!
Many older hot rod types keep lamenting that the hobby is dying, and young people are not getting involved. This is not true at all. The oldies don't want to recognize that younger people want very different cars and realistically few young people could ever afford the big bucks your average hot rod owner has invested into their old iron. Times are a changing...
There was also a sand castle display nearby...
This was my favourite...
And on the way back, we couldn't resist this picture of this Rabbit Cabriolet near VIU. Yes those are real rabbits lounging underneath...

Looks like a good time.
Nothing wrong with a summer day by the beach. Or relaxing under a cabriolet disguised as road kill. B
