That looks amazing - I'll bet it's a blast to drive. Your Dad certainly has some impressive skills. Very, very nice!

Soooo, Dad has been having an issue with the speedometer in his Ute. Apparently the needle has been fluctuating greatly and is no longer accurate. In an old VW, it would probably be a dry cable. A little more complex in his hot rod however... The all electronic aftermarket speedo gets its signal from the powertrain control module. This signal is a "cleaned-up" square wave generated by the vehicle speed sensor located in the rear transaxle. For whatever reason the signal which seemed to work before, was becoming erratic. Given my lack of test equipment at home, I decided to bypass the computer, and feed the speedometer the signal directly from the speed sensor. The instructions with the speedo said that was ok, and it seemed to do the trick. Calibrating it was another story however. It is one of those push button, wait for light behind odometer to flash, watch tach readout, hold for "x" seconds, etc, etc. Real fun to try to do this with Dad while he was driving and holding a constant speed. Highly irritating, but got there in the end. So Dad is happy once again...

Just catching up on this thread. That thing is amazing. I owned a modern Holden Ute when I lived in Australia...this one is much nicer (understatement).
Congrats to your pops on finishing this amazing ride.

Dad has been continuing to enjoy his Ute. He did run into some weird electrical grounding issues in the summer that was causing intermittent poor running, and occasional stalling. After ALOT of fooling around, it was determined that a ground signal to the computer was failing. A wire was added directly to the computer casing, and all seems good for now... And there is "Mr. Smiley" himself. Dad seems to be getting more enjoyment out of driving this one, then all of his other cars... I always thought he drove this thing with a lead foot. But apparently I was wrong... A couple of months ago, he drove the Ute to Victoria to visit Camosun College. This is because the guy that did all the custom software programming on this car is an instructor there. Dad brought it right into the class shop for a show and tell session. Later Dad allowed the instructor to take the Ute for a drive and told him to "put his foot in it". Well he did, and took it up over 160 km/h on a back street! He told dad it was just as fast, if not faster then the Corvette drive-train it is based on. I think Dad liked that...
