Some may remember this picture from the early days of this site. Back in 2010 I had made my fourth trip to Taiwan. One of the things I wanted to see was a Beetle that I knew was hiding down an alley near my in-laws place in Hua-lien. My father in law was surprized I knew it was there because I had never seen it in person before. I had seen it on Google Earth however..... He thought that was weird. Anyway here is what it looked like four years ago... The back story is the owner died over twenty-five years ago and his widow couldn't bear to part with it. It has never moved since he last parked it, and is unlikely to move until she is gone. It has deteriorated even more in the last four years... This car is hard to identify what year it actually is. There have been many modifications as well. Take your guess then the answer will be revealed later... The hubcaps have survived well, haven't they??? Betcha one more good typhoon and that door will fall completely off...

Well this thread has not been updated for a little while... You can see not only is it still there, it has gained some "restoration". Rebecca is currently in Taiwan visiting her Dad, and she managed to get an updated picture of the collapsing Beetle. Apparently this custom paintjob was applied sometime ago assumingly as a preservative of some sort... The neat thing is Rebecca actually got to chat with the owner who invited her to take more pictures if she wanted... And she did! Check out that sweet custom bumper and fog light up front. Nice! The concrete blocks holding up the decaying structure are pretty cool too. But best of all is look closely, and it appears the body is being held together with some form of sticky tape. At least the door is secured once again. The owner is now 80, but will probably be around for some time yet, and the car is going nowhere until they do... We will probably get another update next year...

Very cool Russ I remember the story you told us and the uncertainty of its existence. Glad you got some closure to the plight of this car . I know myself i often wonder what has happened to cars and where they have gone to.
