Not much point in taking a photo, but I got a shiny new auto darkening welding helmet. My Ghia needs a bit of TLC to it's rocker sections, so this will come in very useful.
If anyone is ever thinking of buying one of these helmets, make certain that you get the type with the replaceable batteries. Although they are powered through a solar panel by the arc of the welder, they have a small rechargeable battery that eventually dies. Some of the helmets have sealed auto darkening screens that you can't get into to replace the batteries. You then end up with an expensive grinding / cutting face mask like I did!

Sooo, on to the loot! Well I guess I was kinda naughty this year, because I didn't get much VW related stuff at all.. . This may have been due to the fact I promised everyone that I wouldn't buy anymore VWs in 2015, and well I seemed to end up with 1 1/2 new projects this year... Anyway I did get a couple of VW related items...
This was more a gift wrapping as the present had nothing to do with VWs. Oh well, you take what you get...
Dinner was good and look at the desert... Baked four apple pies this year, three featured VW symbols, the fourth had a festive "EAT ME" on the top... Rebecca made the cake which went down very well...
But wait, I did get something else after all...
This HUGE calendar was given to me by the bosses at work as it had come from the VW dealer.
Each month features high quality reprints of original VW advertising photos from the '50s. Just a few of them are shown.
All models are European spec at different locations throughout Europe. This sunroof model does it for me... The boss claims he was told that only ten of these calendars was distributed to Western Canada, but then he tells me lots of BS, so I don't necessarily believe that... Anyway they appear to be available from VW itself, direct from Germany... My problem is I don't know if I want to unwrap it or not.... Now excuse me while I go eat some more pie...

Nice! I hope that your boss doesn't read this site, or if he does, that he has a good sense of humour!

This HUGE calendar was given to me by the bosses at work as it had come from the VW dealer. My problem is I don't know if I want to unwrap it or not... If you don't, I'll come over and do it for you so you can really enjoy those pics on your garage wall month by month and separately into the future, lol A metal "Combi" sign in Spanish. Interesting…..kind of the opposite of bolour with a "k"(what a silly bunt ) That looks to be the same Bus, in a different colour, as the one on Brent's sign. No matter how much I wish they would start recognizing the Bay as the Split's cool successor, it is sadly looking as though my wish will remain unfulfilled. I guess the Split is too secure in its icon status. The ongoing "hippy" status of the Split and Bay Buses is shown on the fabric of a pillow case my wife sewed for our Bus. Something Laurie noticed at the liquor store. We bought it for the photo op, but since I don't drink beer, I think Laurie gave it away…

Hey Don, I guess there is some truth to the splits being hippy buses as opposed to the bays in terms of the late 60s and 70s. I remember how expensive the bays were. My Dad bought his '73 Westy used in 1978 for $4800 and it didn't have a stove or fridge. If I recall, and someone can correct me on this, he said in 1978 a brand new Westfalia at Speedway was $13,000. A Dodge Charger might have been 4 or 5 grand, but I need to check those numbers. That pillow case material is awesome, is there any more at the shop? People often say, "oh you have one of those "hippy vans" when they see I have a bus I suppose beer ads like the one you posted and this limited edition from last year are trying to cash in on the legend. By the way, funny how they can tie drinking and driving together
