I got a call from Duncan RCMP this evening. Apparently my vehicle had been involved in a vehicle incident in Duncan today. I initially thought he was talking about the Matrix, but then he started talking about my VW van.... the Split has been sat in the same spot in the garage since early November.
I pointed out that it was a 1957 and was quite recognisable. He was actually looking for a vehicle that had been described as a Chevy van. He asked me to check that the licence plates hadn't been stolen, but they were still there. When I read him the plate number, it turned out that it was the old plate that I had handed back in during 2014, when I took it off the road following my disastrous run to Volksfest when it overheated. Somehow, the old plate was still attached to the vehicle, with a note that it had been replaced by the new plate. Weird.

Weird is right, but I would also say it's kinda creepy! Makes one wonder what kind of scam may be going on internally at ICBC. Ugh. Or maybe it was just a mis-reported plate number?

Maybe when you returned your plates (maybe even in the original plastic sleeve?) they looked so new they got handed out again to another customer?!?!

Ha ha. I know the bus hasn't done too many miles on Vancouver Island, but it did drive. The plates were used, so I'd be surprised if they had been re-used. I suspect it's more a case of a misread plate.

My Dad once was sent a fine in the mail for a hefty parking ticket. With a picture of the car too. Except it was definitely not his car or license plate. And the ticket was from Alberta. Clearly the car had an Alberta license plate on it. This took a while to get to the bottom. Dad once had a license plate with the same number except BC instead of Alberta. This had expired years ago and was once attached to his '59 T-bird, not the late '80's Buick shown in the picture. Both cars WERE white, but really? Who would be dumb enough to make a mistake like that...
