Had a weekend off of work finally so we were able to take the bus over to Hornby Island for the first official maiden voyage! Got hit by a bunch of rain Saturday but Thursday and Friday were absolutely gorgeous! For those that haven't been before, Tribune bay on a sunny, hot day is a little piece of paradise close to home. White sandy beaches, turquoise waters and about a 2 minute walk from the Tribune bay campsite. The bus held up great too and took the rain like a champ. Photos for your enjoyment: Until next time!

The vintage webbed chairs and old style cooler, nice touch. I recently re-webbed an old family lawn chair...cool... Oh! and the collector plates I'm jealous!

Glad you are out there using your Westy as it was intended! Those chairs bring back good memories, too.

Good memories? I can remember the old plastic webbing giving way and next thing you're kicking yourself in the head!

Camping season is upon us! A bit of good luck with the weather this weekend made for an enjoyable little getaway to Pemberton, BC. I drive the Sea to Sky pretty frequently throughout the year in my TDI Golf but this was the first time taking the bus on the highway. Took us a little longer, but slowing down a little allowed us to notice a few more things along the way that we hadn't noticed before. It also gave me a reason to be a tourist in my own backyard. Our home for the next two nights, Nairn Falls. About 30 other sites were occupied. The setup with our upgraded chairs. These chairs pack down into mini bags and weigh ~2 lbs each. Big upgrade from the bulky rainbow ones we took to Hornby last year. Might not be as cool though... One of the reasons we picked Pemberton was so we could drive up to Joffre Lakes and do the hike... The first lake is about 50m from the parking lot. Unfortunately the trail to the middle lake looked like this: So we hiked for about 45 minutes before turning around. I was wearing shorts and Andrea had just thrown out her back at work a couple days earlier. We'll have to give it a go some other time when the snow melts a little. The drive up there was nice though! I had it in second for most of the switchbacks on the way up. First time driving that section of the Duffey! This orange bus (with a tramp stamp) passed us on the way down to Whistler the next day. I've seen it around in Vancouver. Couple of ladies driving it! Still skiing up on Blackcomb! The drive home on Sunday wasn't as enjoyable as the way up seeing as we left during rush hour. Lots of fast cars and big pickups in a hurry to get back to the city. Thanks for reading!

Runs great! I did notice that when downshifting into 2nd (especially coming down from Joffre) the engine puts out this sort of popping noise. Never does it in 3rd though. Thoughts?

A popping noise may be a slight exhaust leak. While decelerating in lower gears at higher speeds you may get this, often while going downhill. The leak may be small enough that you do not hear it as an exhaust leak at other times.

I can't imagine that it is a hole anywhere, however it could be that after running it a bit as you have, the heat cycle/vibration has caused the gaskets to compress a bit. Try tightening up all bolts on the triangular flanges. Nice to see the Bus out and giving you and Andrea some enjoyment! The pics are great! They remind me of many years ago(now where is that wistful emogee ). Laurie has one of those same chairs in her office(home camper ). Cheers, Don PS What is a "Tramp Stamp"?

I seem to remember that Don gives a 25 year parts and labour guarantee on all vehicle sales!

Nice pics and great looking trip. Well done man!
Regarding the "Tramp Stamp" question...It's a tattoo usually installed above a lady's deck lid. B

Didn't realize you can't see it in the photo but theres a sort of Celtic looking symbol painted above the engine lid on that orange bus. Thanks for your suggestions guys. I have the weekend off so I'll have to crawl under the bus and see if I can do some tinkering.
