I bought a 1969 van earlier this year from Courtenay for $1K and trailered it home to Nanaimo. The brakes were seized and I don't know about the engine. The owner said it ran one year ago but I expect that is at least 5 years maybe more. I've done the brakes and ready to pull the engine and make that a winter project. I have owned a few VW vans. I drove a 55 barn door out to BC in 1972, owned a 60's combi in Botswana in 1977, had a 1973 in 1980 and then connected to this gem. It needs a LOT of work so maybe a year from now we'll be on the road. Attachments:

Good luck with the build! B

It always amazes me to hear of old buses still being picked up for decent prices here on the Island. Welcome, can't wait to see some progress pics

Cool! Looks like a Brilliant Blue(mostly) Westy, no? Maybe just like the one my parent's bought back in the day(and I drove for a while). Except they bought a 1970….see more here: miacvw.proboards.com/thread/220/original-family-westfalia-pics-moviesBy any chance did you buy it from beside a place that served Donairs or Gyros? Great to see you are bringing it back to life!

Great to see you are bringing it back to life! Yes this bus came from Courtenay and was parked, a visnd ible from the highway. back parking lot at Gyros. The owner runs that restaurant and referred to her father Robert who owns Courtenay Car Centre (many old Volvos). Rebuild will be slow- first the mechanical stuff Brakes, then steering and engine. I will do necessary body work but wait to see about a rebuild! Doug

I'm glad someone finally grabbed that bus. It sat there for years with the sliding door open, looking sadder and sadder....

I had a look at it and talked with somewhat thought they knew something about it. They said the owner was wanting big bucks so I didn't pursue. Mark (CrazyBrit) first told me about it some time ago, so there were a few watchers. Glad it went to a good home!
