Hey guys. I've done as much as I can do on my engine rebuild. Now I just need someone to adjust my valves and shim the flywheel properly. After that, I should be fine. If anyone is interested in doing this, pls call me at 250-797-1554. I will pay you for your time. Thanks, Jason

Those are both really easy operations. If you built the engine to this point you should have no trouble with these last couple of steps. I recommend using a dial gauge to set the crank endplay though, rather than the tool that bolts on and uses a feeler gauge.
Believe in yourself. Go for it!

Don't know any good mechanics...
You most certainly need to know how to adjust your own valves as a VW owner!! Setting up the endplay requires a dial gauge to do it accurately and quickly. And some spare shims. Some a*****e "borrowed" my dial gauge some time ago and felt it was not necessary to return it... I can happily tell you how to do it if you like...

The info is great. Most importantly, the section on determining exactly where number one will be on my distributor. When I put the case together, I installed the dist drive gear first. I know it can wind up with the rotor pointing in the wrong direction. I popped in the distributor to hold everything down, but failed toe notice that it wasn't seated in the groove on the top of the drive gear. Only noticed when I popped the cap off and realized that the rotor wasn't turning as I rolled the engine over. Is the distributor only supposed to sit in the groove of the drive gear one way? It doesn't seem to want to sit down if I rotate it 180 degrees?? I turned the dist. around and it dropped into the slot. I must sound like a bit of an idiot, but this is the very first time I've assembled one of these. I totally appreciate all of your help. Thanks guys
