Meanwhile, this is coming out to play again... It his been some time since Victor has driven his old Civic. And once again it was ME who put the effort into bringing the shine back. This paint is very prone to fading and must be constantly waxed. I am trying out some of the Turtle Wax brand ceramic wax which is highly rated. We will see how it lasts... Also waxed my free Civic. The red one is my Honda number One, and the other is Honda number Four. Wonder how many more I might own in the future??? Really the ONLY other car I still want is a Corvair that I can actually drive! Still dreaming about that...

Sooo, what fun stuff was I doing this weekend??? Yup. It was time to yank the sick engine out of my nephew's Tercel for reasons mentioned one page back... Started around 9:00 on Saturday morning and was on the floor by lunchtime. It did come out the top too, without the transmission, despite what the manual recommended be done. Didn't want to pull the transmission with it to avoid excess rolling around on the floor... Replacement engine went in without too much effort, and was ready to start before 5:00. Except there was an issue.... See that innocent looking throttle body??? See those four spigots sticking out the bottom? This picture is misleading because they are all in fact the same size. Two of them are for coolant passageways, the other two are vacuum connections. Once the throttle body is installed, all four of those hoses look the same, and it is hard to see where the other ends go to. You can probably guess where I am going here... I ended up mixing and matching different parts between the two engines, selecting what I thought were the best components. Because of this, I thought I would start the engine briefly without coolant, just in case I had to change a component. And it easily started first turn of the key and sounded just fine. Then I added the coolant... Lets just say it now ran absolutely horrible and belched clouds of steaming antifreeze out the exhaust. That is what happens when you mix up a coolant hose with an identical appearing vacuum hose. Ooooops!!! It took some more fun (leaking fuel injector seals at the head), until it ran properly again. The test drive was interesting as it took several kilometers of driving before the last of the antifreeze burned out of the exhaust system... But the car appears to be back from the dead once again and will be returned to the owner tomorrow. Hopefully I won't have to touch it again for a VERY long time... Need to make some room as the yard is filling up full of cars again... At least the basement workshop is vacant again. Just wait until you see what is going to fill that up soon!!!

Sooo, it is the changing of the seasons again... The mighty $100 Acura has completed yet another six months of winter service. In addition to its seasonal oil service and trans fluid change, I did have to fork out for a left rear brake caliper that would not stop seizing up the park brake mechanism. This was the only additional expense this year the car demanded. Hard to believe this is year six for winter daily driving this beast... And the KMs are slowly piling on. Almost always just over 4000km added each season. Just how far will this engine go??? And yes, I am going to keep my "lucky" plate going for as long as ICBC will let me. Been well over 20 years now...

Well looky what is back on the road again... My kid is back to driving his first car again; my old '95 Civic Si which was my favourite daily driver from years gone by. He loves the thumping sound system and screaming exhaust... And a significant milestone has been reached. Not many cars can attain 400,000km, but Hondas regularly can. Only two years to go before it hits 30 years old too. Where did all that time go??? And something else to consider. Between this car, my free Civic daily driver, and the $100 Acura, the combined mileage is currently is 1,119,000 km! And many more to come...
