No this is not mine. But given that Don hasn't really admitted to owning this yet, it is time to post a picture...
Yes it is Don's future SAAB project, this time an earlier "bullnose" version. Like his now sold white 1965 model, this one also features a water-cooled two-stroke triple cylinder engine that drives the front wheels. This one is significantly more original than the last, but Don has some big plans for this one... He will get to explain why he has it and what the future will be...
His Saab is currently in storage and sharing space with a lot of other people's cars including this late Squareback. Looked pretty decent too. Hopefully will be finished one day...

Ha, not really Byron...but there is more to the story. It has to do with a very rusty but rare car all the way from Manitoba. And you think your Bus is rusty, just wait until I get the pics uploaded....you will laugh

Wow nearly three years since posting.... So where is this project now? Well, not languishing in my either rented space, nor the tiny dilapidated no power no heat garage at the house I redid for my parents. Since my Iltis is now again mobile with a small host of problems fixed, I was able to, with the help of friends, move it into my home garage. The engine is still in a whole bunch of parts and I have no idea if it is even complete, but I am gonna try to make some progress on it soon. This is the car that came from Manitoba: It is the very definition of a Flintstone vehicle, having absolutely no floors. However it does have some value because it is a genuine and quite rare 1964 Saab 96 "Sport" model. That means it was special in its day, with a list of features not found in the regular 96. From cool special seats, a more powerful oil injected engine(as opposed to "mixer" style engine(oil mixed with gas in the fuel tank)) and front disc brakes with a dual master cylinder that operates front and rear diagonally. It is sad that over its life it has deteriorated into the condition it is today, but such is the fate of many vehicles. The "grand" long term plan would be to transplant the mechanicals of this car into the beige car and have a "Sport" tribute car. I shouldn't get ahead of myself though and I should just focus on getting the beige car running and braking .....

I am trying...the starter from the red car is out because for fun I thought I would see it I could get the engine running. Here is the little 3 cylinder 2 stroke: The starter kept sticking, so off to A&B it went I did have it fire once, and that was with the #2 spark plug out but connected to the HT lead, so I figure the engine is suffering from non-atomized mix. Well, that and probably bad internal engine seals, but I figured I should clean the carbs...all three of them. Interesting intake, eh?

On the subject of carb cleaning. I used a improvised soda blaster. Simple a bit messy but effective. This is a side by side of a couple fuel pumps the one the right has been soda blasted and rebuilt. This consists of 3 items. Costco baking soda. Mastercraft air gun Recycleing bin bottle. I straightened the nozzle and drilled a small hole to siphon the soda. Used about 50lbs of air pressure and half a bottle of soda to do this pump.
