Hi everybody, I am new to the community my name is Thorben and our Bus Fred has the problem that if you turn the hot 2 liter motor with a single Weber carburetor off, it ll still burn fuel while the engine takes a little while to turn off completely. I put seafoam in the tank and changed to 89 Octane Petrol 200 kilometers before. A guy told me that's the best way to get rid of the carbon dust on the pistons . But it's still a problem..any ideas;)? Greets Thorben

The single weber carburetor has always given me trouble. I fought with mine in the last bus I had for 2 years, changing jets, and doing everything I could. I even once had to tear apart the carb to replace the float which had a leak and wasn't shutting off the fuel, but that gave me flooding problems on start up.
My best advice is to make sure there are NO vacuum leaks anywhere, make very sure the points, plugs and rotor are in good shape, and the timing and dwell is right on.
And as a side note don't forget to check the tappets, especially #3 but that doesn't sound like your present problem.
Other than that, I'll leave more advice up to the much more experienced guys on this board than I am.
Stan (Betsy) soon to be on the road.

The usual cause of "run-on", is glowing carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. Engine running too lean and idle speed too high will make this worse. VW used idle circuit shut off solenoids on the original carbs to prevent this common problem in the 1970's. Your single carb will not have this function.
