Yup 4 37 means April 1937 generally. The model number is always on the collar. The trick is to find out your Westy or bugs birth month and match it up with a lantern.
Some really early (1920s) models and dates of lanterns are reversed, a very very few lanterns have no stamping at all on them (a mistake by Coleman), I have one of them. US made lanterns (there were 2 factories, one in Toronto and one in the US) have the dates on the bottom, Canadian ones have the dates just below the "sunshine of the night" logo. Stan

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. I guess I need to find a November 1966 lantern/stove/heater set to go with my bus

That sounds very interesting, but unfortunately I'm not able to make it to town for the meeting. Here on Lasqueti we have no ferry service Tues or Weds. I'd like to see your collection sometime though.
