I did some electrical work a lil while back. Seems my van didnt like starting at cold. Upon examination, someone had decided to cut open the fuel injection wiring harness and gawd only knows what they were attempting to fix. I'm guessin the start problem. Lucky for me we have some great people in our community who like to "keep" things, just in case. Four wiring harness's later, I found the exact one. Whoever did the hack, didnt put the hack job back very professionaly, having it lying all over the place. I started by testing the fifth injector, the "cold start". It didnt spray, so I put on a spare I got, and it didnt work either. First assumption, replace wiring harness, and do it right! After replacing wires, still no spray? After some consultation, found out there was a direct wire to the starter. Climbed under and wala, there it was, bent back, zap strapped and shrink wrapped. Cut her loose, hooked her up, and bam, we had spray. Some complicated wiring to the coil, and she starts right up. I dunno how long they drove it and started it like that. Guess that why it has a new starter, lol
ps: will like to remove engine to clean it and the compartment up in the furture

Haven't yet. Done some reading on the samba. Seems involved and having a helper sounds almost like a necessity. Getting it tight, but not too tight is the challenge. I think Bus Boys and West Coast Metric among others have them. You'd have to run it by Darren, and certainly not to try to take business away from a local manufacturer and nice VW guy, generally custom tops would I think be costly.

Is this the bus that you bought the interior for at Volksfest?
I was talking to a colleague at work a few days ago and we started talking old cars. Catherine mentioned that she liked old VWs, so I showed her a picture of the Split and she recognised it from Volksfest. She then mentioned that she had just recently parted out her Bay and sold the parts off at Volksfest, including the camping interior... When we got talking it was the same interior that Don bought and Reagh kindly packed into the back of his Bay DC. Small World.

Catherine on the Salt Spring Island Ferry... Met her years ago when she was still driving her bus. She is into vintage motorbikes now... Fun to talk to...

One of the highlights of Volksfest, meeting Catherine and buying some bus parts and a book from her.
