Ok I am pretty much finished the motor. Valves adjusted and dizzy gear installed. The only thing left is adjusting the end play, I attempted to do it yesterday but I didnt have the correct shims so I ordered a few from AVR. I had to order a couple .24 thick ones in order to get the right combination. So now that it done I guess I just showed how to do a very basic engine refurbish. I used the best used parts I had for this emergency back up, it will never be a primary long term motor it will be a temporary engine to install and use until myself or someone else fixes their's. I spent less than 300 dollars to do this, new main, cam and rod bearings, new flywheel seal and a couple shims. I already had a gasket set, NOS piston rings, and rear (front) main seal in the stash. So there you have it, a refurbished used engine!! But dont get me wrong I would definitely trust it to drive to California, getting back may be a different story hahahahaha. Hopefully this may help someone who is pondering rebuilding an engine, its really not as dificult as it looks and sounds and believe me using all new parts will definitely make it easier!!!!

I did hear those words we all love: "rust free"!!! A big project for sure, but sounds worth it... Mind you I don't want any major projects either...

I heard that "rust free" meant there was no extra charge for it with this one...

I was stoked that I might be able to pick up a Notchback...then I realized that I have no interest in dealing with rust either

Awesome that your got your dream car (or at least VERY close to it). You are going to want to "un-slam" that one because I have driven it and it ain't comfortable. That poor engine would be MUCH happier with its original fuel injection system reinstated... Now you have two Diamond Blue Beauties!!!

ooohhh hell ya its getting raised up and yes I drove it home and the ride is not nice. I will eventually put fuel injection back only after I go through all of the spare parts and figure out which year all of the components are so I can match them up. From what I understand the computers have to match some of the other components. But for now I will just go with dual carbs. I have a rebuilt engine that I will install the fuel injection on and then swap out.
As for the the fastback it looks like Im going to be painting the fenders myself, never done it so something new to learn about. Once they are done it will be ready to go as my daily driver. I want to finish it before I start tinkering on the squareback.
