Just a heads-up on the panel bus. Looks can be deceiving lol. After a quick sanding of the lower 6 inches and it revealed rust holes in almost all areas. That took up about 2 weeks of Rob's time, welding and bondo smoothing. The bottom 4 inches of the sliding side door was cut-off and a new piece welded back on. The roller wheel bracket was also replaced. Then it needed wire brush and wire wheel cleaning of a lot of surface rust on the interior floors. Then metal treatment (blue steel). Also a few body dents were pounded out. The next 2 weeks were spent sourcing and restoring a gas tank, clutch pedal assembly and new cable, gas pedal replacement and cable. The 2L rail buggy engine was pulled out earlier, and is now being prepared for installation in the panel bus. Good used heater boxes were found in our stash, and missing cooling tins were rounded up and installed. Now just need to find the correct muffler...that is hiding somewhere. Intake manifold rubbers need to be replaced and Weber carb needs service. Next week we will install a six rib tranny from our stash, along with the engine. After that is successfully running, all the electrical will be serviced as needed. Then the brake system will be gone through and serviced as needed. Next will be installing the sound deadening material and insulation and whiteboard interior panels throughout...and a serviceable floor, of course. Finally the finishing bodywork will be done and an off white blending of the bottom 6 inches. Our special touch will be a "R&R Restoration/Salvage" graphics decal will be designed and installed by Keiran. We will send progress pics to Russ for posting as things unfold. Rob and I are very appreciative of the original donation of this 79 panel, and looked forward to finally having a company/hobby service bus that's actually a VW.

I have a bunch of new pictures for this thread to be uploaded, but a quicky after dinner nap turned into another four hour long snore-fest according to my wife. Sadly something that happens all too frequently nowadays I'm afraid... This getting older stuff kinda sucks... Pics will be up tomorrow, for sure!

So here the Rob and Reagh project continues... Continuing bodywork on the lower quarter panels... Looks like the boys are gathering a fuel system together... And selecting a shifter as well. Will they use the shiny one??? Prepping a good clutch for the machine... Putting in the rear main seal? Fitting up the heater box and valves from the stash... Engine is coming together. I think they said this one was formerly in a sandrail that was running well. There is HighTopRob himself, toiling away getting this engine ready... The fueling of choice is the single Webber conversion. Rob LOVES these carbs and is very familiar with them.. Heh, heh. All fitted up with the six rib trans, just about ready for action... Lets hope that tranny is a good one! Definitely no fooling around going on here. This project is cruising right along and I bet it will be on the road sooner than later. Let's hope we have some events we can go to this year!!!

Yes it is!!! Motor and tranny in and now its just hook up electrical, fuel line and pump, then put on the carb and hopefully we've done everything correctly and she fires up. After she is running finish off the body and check and repair any brake issues...wwwoooo hhhooo

To my knowledge, the FI system, engine, and trans(?) were kept by Brian to put in the '72 Dorper.
Gonna need Russ up there to get a vid of the first start up(and maybe some technical support, ha-ha). Looking good, so far, hope it sounds good too!

Yes Don you are correct Brian took absolutly everything that had to do with an FI bus. As for being a guru with progressives I dont know about that but working on and adjusting mine for a few years sure helps hahahaha I accually wanted to use fuel injection but the boss over ruled me on that one!! I did put a FI fuel tank in just in case we want to switch over. We might have everthing hooked up this weekend so we will definitly take a vid of the first start up. The muffler seems to be eluding us at the moment but I am sure one will pop up from somewhere.

Well I think I have topped my shop towel left in the intakes of a motor . I was starting the process of hooking up all the bits that will finish off the engine install so I decided to start with the clutch cable because the axels were not together yet so I had a little extra room to work so on went the bowden tube and cable through the clutch arm and put on the wing nut, easy peasy right ?? so I started turning the nut by hand as usual but it hits a spot where it gets to hard to turn so I use a pair of pliars to finish but this time I just kept turning by hand which Im thinking this aint right, so I get to the end and by now I know it aint right, I go check the pedal and I can push it to the floor with one finger so thats it WTF !!! So I start thinking of what the problem could be hhhmmm still thinking still thinking and then bam I dont remember checking to make sure the throw out bearing is good, my next thought ...no no no fu*@ing way, hahahahaha but YES I forgot the bearing. So now knowing the only way to check is pull the engine and... there ya go no throw out bearing uuuhhhhgggg. After a large amount of cursing I put one in and re installed the motor hahahaha im happy that type 4's are usually quick and easy to install which it was, thankfully. I now have a functioning clutch hahahaha I have to tip my hat to brent for his little comment a few posts back lol. Ya'll can stop laughing now

Kinda too late to ask this, but did you refresh all the shift rod bushings when you had the engine out the first, or second, time?
