Just wanted to ask a question about my 1600 rebuild . When i took the motor apart, the main studs that fasten-the two half’s of the case together didn’t have the six sealing rubber grommets installed ?. I was wondering if it it correct to not use them , didn’t leak any oil ? I have new ones in a complete set of gaskets. Anyone still peening rod nuts ?
Any help on these items would be very helpful ! Thanks Brett

Just saw you post. Those sealing rings I think were only used on some engines. If there is the necessary chamfer in the case then use them. I have not peened a nut in years, but do like to put locktite on them...

Clay probably has a stack. I have a collection of used ones in Port Alberni.
Not sure you're going to find new on the island.
...though, I should definitely have a set or two of new ones you could replace.

Thanks guys for the responses I have after altering bearing thrust play , 48-50 thousand so need to get it down by putting in the appropriate thicknesses
Three shims needed to get this to .006 within specifications might have to order from the states a shim kit
But really appreciate the help !
This is my first bottom end by my self and so far been a piece of lemon meringue!

Ok made and remade measurements . I have end play of 1.01 mm So three 32 mm shims should be perfect ? With 5 mm of space 3x32+5 = 1.01 mm? Any help on this confusion would be appreciated at this time , before i order shims thx

you need between 3-5 tho of endplay 6 max.if you are going to use 3 32mm shims thats like 3.7 inches of play somethings not right. are you using a magnetic stand and dial gauge.

3x.32=.96 1.01-.96=.05 .05mm=0.00236220472 inches sound right if it is too tight the engine just won't turn
