Okay...found my used ones. But not the new ones. My shop is an absolute disaster right now, needing to be cleaned up. I'll try and get to that before the weekend.

Im finding more out about things i have read about but not understood the time line .
My motor has a oil cooler inside the rear cooling shroud . I have read that this was changed due to the number 3 cylinder over heating .
VW changed this and moved the cooler forward on the motor so the air being pushed through the oil cooler was dumped out side the tin at that point , allowing cooler air to reach the #3 cylinder .
So now having found this out , it explains y i have had running hot issues.
I payed a visit to Clay and was schooled on this , pointing out also the use of type 3 cooling tins for the cylinders .
Luckily i have caught this and will look for the extra pieces that will help with temperature reduction.

Sounds more like firing order or timing have you tried moving the distributor well running recheck firing order look at rotor is it pointing to no 1 wire is the distributor gear in the postion.

Well darn...I have crush washers here and we forgot all about them :-(
Check that your distributor gear isn't 180 degrees out. You can run it like that but need to flip all the plug wires to the right places.

The intake manifold is warped and not sealing correctly letting air in . At idle it runs good , however opening the throttle , it pops .
Distributor 180 out ?
Does this mean i need to pull the drive (with a wood pencil , being careful of the washers ) And repoint it . When i was building the motor I turned it over and had the distributor pointing to the # 1 mark on it around the seven o’clock position. However i had to change this putting the # 1 position at the one o-clock position . Sorry if this is confusing.

If it's idling fine then the distributor gear should be correct (or your wires on the right spots). There should be a notch in the top of the distributor body that indicates the correct position for number one. If the cable for number one is on that spot, you're good.
If your intake manifold isn't sealed against the heads then you'll suck a lot of air in and get poor performance for sure.
