"Holy crap I have spent a lot of money on that old vehicle! It's a good thing it makes me smile."
Well said Mark

I have probably spent less then some of you, but then I am kinda cheap. Or "Thrifty". I can still justify what I do spend on my hobby cars by running dirt cheap daily drivers. I can proudly say I have never had a car payment and it is highly unlikely I ever will. Lets not talk about car insurance however...

Personally, I think there are multiple prices for the same vehicle:
- What I insure it for. - What the Hagerty price guide says its worth - What the _local_ market says it's worth (Beetles in Vancouver are valued differently than Victoria, or SoCal, or Pennsylvania) - What it would be listed on The Samba for. - What it would sell for at auction. - What I could realistically sell it for this year. - What I could realistically sell it for if it needs to be gone this week. - What I have into it.
None of the above have any relation to the other. A concept which is lost on all most all local sellers of classic vehicles. Porsche 914 with almost ZERO useful parts still left un destroyed? $6K. "But it's a Porsche, and fully restorable". Sigh.

Here we go, it is Ranty Mc Ranteroo time once again... Let's talk about strippers! No, not that kind. I am talking about good old paint strippers. You know the ones that actually worked... Remember about a year ago I bought a aerosol can of paint stripper from Lordco. That is it on the left and it is now empty. If you have a good memory, then I said at the time that maybe I should have bought more and stockpiled them. Too bad I did not... That new replacement is on the right and you can see some differences... What was once "INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH", is now downgraded to "HIGH STRENGTH". Except it isn't. In fact the "new" product is absolutely completely USELESS!! Why?? It seems that once again the good old USA is responsible for this. It appears somebody down there didn't bother to read any of the many warning labels on the can and managed to be overwhelmed by the chemical fumes while using this product in a confined space. Yes, they died, and suddenly "investigators" found that others had also potentially succumbed to this "dangerous chemical". Well you know what happened next... It is not hard to find multiple cases of the media recommending turning in your old dangerous paint strippers at once before you die while using them. The specific component was Methylene Choride which was the active ingredient that made paint strippers actually work. No one was surprised when California banned it first, followed quickly by the rest of the USA around 2019-ish. Unsold stock was even taken off the shelves and destroyed as it was SO dangerous. Naturally the powers that be in Canada couldn't think for themselves and ordered it discontinued here too. And just like that, we no longer have usable paint strippers anymore. Every one you find on the shelves now say "Methylene Chloride free". And they are, because they absolutely are useless at there intended purpose now. Keep in mind these products were available for decades and somehow we managed to survive while using them without dropping dead like flies. Sooo much stupidity going on in the world these days, and this is just one more example that actually hits home. Incidentally while "researching" this topic, I ended up on a YouTube channel were a guy tested out the "new" paint strippers while restoring his original 240Z. He bought 8 different strippers and tried them all out on his project. Only TWO of them actually worked to any extent, and neither of those ones are available in Canada. What a surprise...

That's why there are so many stupid people in California , Newsom and the like have made the entire state into a rubber room and now the gene pool is being diluted to vegetable status! 😑

It's amazing that you can't buy a can of paint stripper in the US that will work because it's too dangerous, but you can walk into your local gun store and buy an AK47, because the average American needs one of those to protect themselves. I wonder how many Americans have died from accidentally inhaling the fumes from a can of paint stripper, versus being gunned down in a school or work setting because of a perceived universal need to protect themselves from their own Government. Totally nuts!

Took me a bit to find it, but Permatex Gasket remover might be the solution. I know I've used it in a pinch in my shop.
