I did not. Past that stage as the shims are definitely toasted.

The shims can be sucked in and offset some of the wear spots on the bushing. T

So some more parts are on their way... I rechecked the tie rod ends and elected to replace them. One was OK, one was borderline, but two were completely shot. Given that the one remaining OK one has 53 year old grease in it, it is not worth leaving it there. A new steering dampner is on the way too. Three of the sway bar clamps were rotting and should be replaced. The problem is the current reproductions are not great quality. So bad in fact, that CIP even recommends not to buy them! Of course they still sell them anyway... I have some new ones coming from Chris at Victoria Volkswagen, so hopefully they will be OK...
In other news, although the engine runs well, the choke seemed to be taking its time to open. Uh, that's because the choke element was 12 volts on a 6 volt car. Duh. Going to install one from the stash of spares... Peter now has a replacement rim for the bent one, so this will be installed as well. Some other cosmetic appearances will be performed as well...

I ve plenty of 6 volts stuff left over if you need Russ. as for the clamps....I highly recommend finding some good stock ones. I ve bought those new style ones....as a matter of fact they were so awesome I bought them TWICE! you re welcome to have these or any of the leftovers I have if you like. Only three of these but I'm sure I can find the other one. Its downstairs in the abyss of a locker storage and I just watched conjuring 2....So i m not going down there for a while....

Yes Frank, I would love to take those sway bar clamps off your hands. Can tell that they are much thicker than the crappy repros... When can I pick them up???
