I am trying to get the nerve to take this to town it may be to much for people because it is so bad!
Nothing to be embarrassed about there...be proud that you're rolling a classic piece like that when so many others can't, don't or won't! Represent!

I took it to the Courtenay Farmers Market today about 15k form my house filled up with premium gas at Black Creek about 5k from my house it was hard to start so anyway carried on to the market did that thing for 10 minutes then it wouldn't start so before I killed the battery I got a cool couple to push it and it fired right up imagine that.

Terry, is your Beetle still six volts? I am just about done with them... My '66 is getting a 12 volt conversion so it will FINALLY be a reliable car to drive...

Yes the 36hp motors are expensive to convert I believe that would need a Porsche 12volt generator for the conversion. I am putting new plug wires and rubber seals to try and keep it as cool as possible plus re-check valve clearance point gap and timing and check that I have good ground at the trans to body maybe try a different coil.

With my '66, the underlying problem is a degrading wiring harness which is just not allowing the current to flow well enough. A 12 volt system would overcome this without issue, but six volts just won't cut it unless the wiring is in perfect condition. American cars gave up on six volts after 1955, but VW took a LONG time to make the switch...

I have what was a good runner that I did a top end and rod bearing and set set of heads that I ported myself it ran good till I blew my transmission banging second gear. Broke the spiders and cracked the transmission half way around the bellhousing right in line with were I had ground it for 12volt. I it looked as if something had got in the tooth and gouged the bellhousing and that is where the crack is. Anyway I have put in new spider gears and want to weld up the crack it was a good trans I would like to try it and see if it still is.The motor I had already built my 2010cc it is fully balanced and that and a late swing trans are what I have in my car now. The old motor I am thinking of dressing up 36hp like then trying that old trans and putting them together again and run them in an oval that would be a 12volt setup. For now I could dress up the old motor put the 6 volt flywheel on it the generator then fire it in and run it. Or I could run it 12volt and just keep the 6 volt starter that works real good. Then on the bench I have a case that I have been working on looks to be in good shape that I would like for to be my dream screamer small displacement high rev machine that I have ported another set of heads and would like to try them good crank and balancing would be the ticket for that I am not worried about power or torque. I could go on and on but my typing is terrible.

I could go on and on but my typing is terrible. Don't let typing stop you Terry, we all love the stories. Keep 'em coming! I want to tell a story but every time I try I lose it somehow well trying to spell a word or search for a link to share this one I have tried twice to reply to the first time the wife was standing behind me and asked if I was typing to my girlfriend and started reading my reply so I deleted it before she could read what I was trying to share. The next time I typed a whole big thing and then lost it searching for a link so this time I am going to keep it short and include lots of pictures I know you like pictures.

The thing I am talking about right now is fenders I am going to call this chapter 9 FENDERS although I will refer to others they all have history that I will share when I introduce them to you.I will start with this one. It is one of a pair that I bought from Clay 30 years ago for $200. Russ you laughed at them when you saw them in the rafter at my place they are a heavy gauge metal.

Man, really going back in the mists of time, there!
Try drafting your post in a word processing program, even something as simple as Notepad (assuming you're on a Windows PC). I've gone through the hell of mis-clicking and losing a long, well thought out post. Once you're done, copy/paste it into the forum window...

We will call the first fender one I decided that I would try to give fender two the bump.
There should be more of a ramp on the bump but I am going to leave it for now.
