Still at the electric bike store down here in Ladysmith. My boss who is already overworked and will never get caught up (until he hires someone and delegates some responsibility) has taken on the extra task of wiping the bikes down that have been test ridden or even touched. Not to mention trying to keep the credit/bank card machine and the tablet for the waivers clean. He's doing a good job, but I'm kinda wondering if his sanity is going to make it thru, lol! I generally just sit back in my hole and repair/build bikes. Who knows that will last though as the last orders from Europe are on their way and all the French and Dutch manufacturers have ceased production. The Germans are still producing though.
Other than work, I am happy to say that after a few times in and out, the Echo's starter is fixed. The starter needed rebuilding, but the solenoid which apparently "never fails"(according to A&B Repair), had failed. Once that was replaced, all was good.
I am also curating the toy collection because I got two more display cases. Figuring out shelf heights and where to display certain scales of models has me scratching my head a bit...certainly first world problems all of them.

Still working for now. Rebecca and Victor are both laid off however, and our student and tenant are stuck at home too. We don't know if the shop will be allowed to remain open. It depends on what more Covid-19 restrictions are coming. Apparently automotive repair is not necessarily an essential service in BC, depending what you read. We will see how things progress... Otherwise I am continuing to work on the Ghia at home. The roof painting will be delayed, as I will be staying away from my elderly parents just in case. (They prefer it that way, too). Also spent the day working on the orange Restfalia; updates tomorrow...

Currently hiding out with my girlfriend and her family at their famaily cabin...but I'm getting the itch to be back in Port Alberni for some much needed project time. All my April events have been cancelled, my May events are in the process of being cancelled, and it isn't looking particularly good moving forward!
I, rather un-brilliantly, made a new vehicle purchase mere weeks before the Covid-19 situation became an economic apocalypse. Blasted thing comes without a motor, and I'm definitely no longer in the position to risk spending money on a proper engine build. I've got three cases prepped for 90.5 builds, but haven't started buying the parts for them. Once I get back to the shop I'm going to dig through my bins of bits and see if I can't build up a 1776cc from previous failed engines. The one trick is going to be the crank I have with a spun bearing...will Nanaimo machine shops stay open long enough to get it prepped?!
Hoping to head back to PA on Tuesday, so we shall see what parts I can dig up...

I heard from my brother and sister in law that were in Thailand from early Feb til 2 weeks ago. The came home a week early to beat the rush. They said the pandemic was in full swing in Thailand while they were there but they felt perfectly safe. Everywhere they went they and everyone else was routinely tested for temperature. Anyone with an elevated temp was whisked away for a test.
Free masks were routinely given out in drug stores and other places. There was free hand sanitizer everywhere including taxis. Thailand has a low rate of infection and for their rather large population is able to cope with the hospitalization needs with ease.
My brother said on the way to the airport he and his wife had their temperatures tested 3 different times. but when they landed at yvr nothing. No testing, no one asked them if they were ill, they just breezed through customs and took a cab home. We really dropped the ball early on here in Canada.

Things are getting real. My two co-workers were laid off today until further notice. All automotive shops are slow now for obvious reasons. We still have people booked in for this week, but as always, that is subject to change. A bummer because this is the first time in the company's history, that ANYONE has been laid off. Strange times, indeed...

I was also laid off today. June 20th is the anticipated return date. I will have lots of free time to get the 56 on the road. My backup plan of company supplied toilet paper is shot though.

We're in a watch and wait circuit with our August 16th show. People need something to look forward to and optimism of a return to what we enjoy helps us all. I think you'll see a good number of informal cruises get organized - by it's very nature a good cruise keeps everyone socially distanced but connected.
I'm slowly sorting through my parts hoard and hopefully compiling a bit of an inventory listing. If anyone is looking for parts I'm happy to arrange contactless exchanges.
