Check out the PATINA on that tug! I liked the International in the background too. A friend had one of those in high school as his first vehicle!

The boat looks soooo small in that pic. Is that the Penticton yacht club place, next to the hotel. I got stories about that place, lol Lookin good, get postin some pics ... Quick question .. "When the boat hits the water, and your sailing it into the harbour, will this make you Captain IFDBP?" Hahahaha

Nice work Don!! Also looking forward to seeing more . Haven't seen much activity from you here lately so you must be working on your tug . Thanks Karl. Yes, some work is being done on the tug, then I ran into a snag, no Sikaflex on the continent until mid March. Crazy. Teaser pic...Tony has helped to kick start the continuation of the project…. Working on the green Bus and on my way to deliver the Blue Bus…more on that adventure when complete

Some time and a few projects later, I am finally back on the boat. Well, trying to work on it anyway! I figured I should update this thread… Tony did a stellar job helping get the whole deck done way back in March/April. A LOT of tape and more than a few tubes of Sikaflex. Some detail It was tricky/time consuming getting around the tow posts The results from all the careful taping were worth it

In the late 1990's I found and restored a 3 cylinder Easthope engine. I found the engine in a Sointula boathouse half on its side. I managed to drag it out with my 69 Mercury truck and have a tow truck pick it up and put it in the box. Getting back proved to be difficult because a storm had moved in. As the rain and wind raged and I boarded the last boat to Vancouver Island I heard, "GAS, I SMELL GAS!!!" yelled by one of the deck hands. Turns out my carb bowl had sprung a leak. So I was ordered to back off the boat. So I was stuck! The hotel/motel(whatever it was) was not open so I threw myself on the mercy of the only people I "knew", and those were the people I got the engine from. It was made a bit more difficult as I had my dog with me, but the sellers felt sorry enough for me to put me up. The next day in the daylight I hunted thru bins of things I might be able to plug the leak with. Turned out Seal-All and a bolt/washers/nut were my friends and I managed to get out. Here is what I brought home to Sidney: I took it apart…which required a 100 ton press at the prop shop to free one of the pistons after no amount of oil soaking and heat managed to budge it Gave it a full going over and got it re-ringed. Looked great right after But a bad weather move from Sidney to Nanaimo back in the early 2000's resulted in a toll on the engine's finish that continued to progress thru the years. So I had to strip it down again (not quite as far though!) for a good repaint. More later….

I must say that's a pretty great looking engine! Even for being 1 cylinder short, eh Tony? lol No before pics, but here are some of the engine going back together after painting and polishing all the parts(except the magneto…anyone have any ideas who might be able to refurb mine?) After polishing all the pieces, I coated them with this solution called "Everbright". It requires a few steps, but is supposed to last a very long time. Here I am getting ready to put the very heavy exhaust/intake water cooled manifold back into place. I made the gaskets from fibrous gasket material that has a metal core. Making those with a dremel took some time! Bits to go on. The three valves are half-compression valves that are meant to be opened when starting by hand(throwing the flywheel over at TDC #1 firing, and after the cylinders 1 and 3 have been primed with the "cups" seen below the valves then closed up) Here is the carb, a Zenith up draught carb from the mid 50's or so. The drip oiler for the forward main bearing that I finally managed to get working properly I had to fix the inside lip of the distributor cap as some of it had broken away. I used this glue and powder called Q Bond I picked up at Rondex. Weird stuff…pour the powder on and make it generally the shape you want, then douse it in the cyanoacrylate liquid. It hardens like you wouldn't believe and in 10 minutes of so it can be filed to shape. Pretty cool stuff. The black powder is for plastics and the grey is for aluminum and other metals. Here I formed a strip of plastic with a piece of tape on it(so it didn't stick) into a mould. Liquid soaked: Mould off Filed and sanded to shape Snug in place. Notice that the advance/retard is manually adjusted! How are these for rockers? Valve covers on once all valves adjusted Looking more complete. Getting that flywheel on was fun. It weighs over 150 lbs or so!
