I second Don's comments. That was a great show today and thank you to the weather Gods for the sunshine on an otherwise rainy day. That was quite the downpour driving back from around Mill Bay almost to Ladysmith.
Thanks to Reigh, Russ and Brent for stopping to make sure I was okay when I stopped to put the roof up on the way back. I saw how wet the southbound lane of the road was, noticed that all of the southbound cars had their headlights on, could see the rain ahead and figured that it was best to keep the inside of the car dry so that the window's wouldn't mist up if it got bad. And then it got really bad! Did anyone else see the older model Ford truck lose control in the fast lane of the highway as he aquaplaned? Or the truck that passed me and sent half a tonne of water across the side and the windscreen of the KG? Thankfully the window was wound up at the time.
All in all, a great day, although KG convertibles are definitely designed for dry weather.
And one final thanks to Don and Brent for the push as we turned off the highway onto MacKenzie this morning, when my electrical gremlins decided to join the fun! That really wasn't the spot for the car to decide it didn't want to play anymore.

Ok, here we go again... Meeting at Rona at 7:00 produced a bunch of bleary eyed VW enthusiasts ready to make the trip down to Victoria...
Reagh, Mark,Hi Top Rob, Brent, myself with Victor and Don, and Jay's awesome Westfalia preparing for the trip. Shawn and his son made the trip too, but as Shawn is without a VW at the moment, he had to make do in an "other" car. Unfortunately Jay was unable to bring Don's big restoration project down to Victoria for its debut... Anyway off to Victoria!
First up, is this splittie camper which I failed to record what year or model it was. Do like the truck mirrors however...
Next up is a '58 Kombi in Dove blue. No idea why the door is like that. The owner is building those roof racks. Don has contact info if anyone is interested...
Here is a rare '72 Dorper conversion, built in Haney, B.C. I was told the owner might replace the Dorper top with a different design, but the source of this info may be suspect... That little Honda bike in front was cool.
'79 Westy had some funky pin-striping on it.
VAN GO is a '74 and has been coming to this show for years and years.
And here is Tom's 1974 Westfalia. Tom is BusAddict and is a regular contributor to this site.
Here is a nicely done '57 single cab in Dove blue.
This '63 23 window looks nice in these colours. The dashboard is made from the tailgate of an old rabbit pickup truck and was a little too much for me, but must have been a lot of work to install.
This '66 double door panel was an unusual choice to go camping in given it was barren inside...
I took over 100 pictures including every single air-cooled vehicle in attendance. All will be uploaded, but not all of them tonight!!! To be continued...

Next up is Bob's (Harley) 1966 Doormobile topped camper. Apparently for sale and big $ have been offered... Very nice this bus is.
This '78 in Dakota Beige was very nice as well.
A '67 21 window in a nice two tone combination.
And right beside it, another '67, this time a 13 window.
And beside that, a '67 single cab in Lotus? White.
This bus was uh, not exactly mint, but you just know Brent loved those teardrop windows! The bus liked it so much in the field, it didn't want to leave later.... Fortunately was just a vacuum elbow had popped off...
And here is Reagh (Papa Wheelie) and his shorty bus. He drove it around a bit to prove it actually runs and drives too!
A 1974 "Canadian" Safari Hi-Top, for $4500. I was able to pass it up...
A sea of green, or better known as Goldberg's Westy. There is the great fuzzball himself, making sure nobody ventures too close...
Wow, totally cosmic dude... Quite the wild paint on this 1970 DELUXE bus!
Much more to come...

Goldberg again, in his OWN bus. He personally inspects all the VWs in the immediate vicinity...
Rob showing off Big Blue, his '73 hightop... I can't picture him in any other bus...
Yeah, it is my '74 Restfalia, a kombi with Riviera top, and Westfalia interior... Works for me... Damn I need to replace those ugly screens!
Finally out of the buses, and here is our first type 3. An early '64 Squareback in Sea Blue.
And here is one of my favourite Beetles. This '65 was very nice with a great quality paint job in black.
The interior of the '65 was factory fresh, too.
Parked next to another black Beetle, this time a '59, which still rates as my favourite year... And yes I love those fatty whitewalls...
A slammed '62 in red...
Not even a third of the way through, yet...

This '72 type 181 has been a regular at VW shows for many years. It has a very interesting story about how it got here too. Don will have to tell that tale...
Want to crank it over???
Late Super Beetle looked alright in blue with some unusual rims.
Check out the tape deck, in this well equipped '69 Beetle in Royal Red.
Was one of those AutoSticks, however. Very much an acquired taste, they work well enough when in good condition.
1970 was the year of my first Beetle and first car, so I have always had a soft spot for these. Yukon Yellow was also my favourite colour for this year and model.
Excuse me while I wipe off some drool. This '63 sunroof in Turquoise with its two toned rims and whitewalls definitely did it for me...
A '69 done up in the two- tone style that some find irresistible...
This '67 has been coming here for the last few years and still looks awesome...
This '75 La Grande Bug was my favourite late model last year and still is this year too. His build photos show this car was very rotten before restoration...
And to end this batch, a 1965 on polished five spokes. More pictures tomorrow!

What a great job so far Russ!!….Did you ever consider working as a motoring archivist in your "spare" time?…. that is when you are not helping out people get their rides running well enough to make the trip(and have them not show in the end , but seriously, thanks for the help!!). I will write out the Thing story soon…...

Old splits to restore are becoming quite rare these days. No interior to speak of and rusty, this one was for sale in the swap and shop area for $3,300.

Thanks to all who made their way South to the show this past weekend! It was nice to see a bunch of you (Although I did not have alot of time to chat) Great to see some hardware made it up to the Mid Island aswell! Russ, great photos so far! have you thought about submitting a Volksfest article into a magazine or two?! I think it'd be a great idea!

Computer is doing some weird things tonight, but here we go again...
Here is a orange '74 Super Beetle with what some old alloys that look interesting in black.
This '73 Convertible was quite smooth.
This '68 must be owned by a die hard "Minions" fan...
Steve's old '67 was looking great, too bad he had to sell it...
A 1960 in Charcoal paint with polished five spokes.
This Royal Red '68 had a bit of an identity crisis with its late model fenders, lights, and decklid.
This military like Beetle was kind of thrown together, but would have been a quick and fun project, and the owner was clearly enjoying it.
This Sportster was based on a 1965 chassis and was well put together.
Now more Type 3's, starting with a Diamond Blue '69. Looked good on the gas burners.
More to come...

Back to the Type 3's. This '69 Savannah Beige Notchback was fully restored to a high level. It was definitely my favourite.
Interior was beautifully done too. Lotsa bucks into this one I bet.
An Elm Green 1970 Squareback. Everyone knows my opinion on "eyebrows", but will someone explain the rope to me. See this a lot on British based VWs. Any idea why? Does Mark have any insight???
Speaking of Mark, here is his '71 Ghia. The bus was not quite ready, but the Ghia is an acceptable replacement...
I am sure Mark did not mind being parked next to a 1963 Porsche 356 C...

Here is a long wheel base dune buggy for sale. Of all the buggy variations out there, the original short wheel base Meyers Manx still looks the best out of all of them...
Don and Donna's '67 Notchback has been coming to this show for as long as I can remember.
Another '71 Ghia, this time in Lemon Yellow.
Nice detailing in the engine compartment too.
This 1970 Ghia in Amber is driven a lot by its owner.
This flamed Meyers Manx was based on a '63 Beetle.
Still more to come...
