My daughter gave me a My Little Pony sticker to put over my engine warning light , I don't have any more stickers but Wongai might have a spare! I'm bummed the project fell apart after all that work. But at least I don't have to give you one of my pony stickers.

Car is currently sitting on the side of the road about a block from my house. I just might leave it there...

did you scan the trans for codes? i remember a few honda products came in with no drive and left fine with a new prindle switch due to a plausibility code.

Doing that tonight. There was no warning or funny noises, and trans fluid level is ok...

Sooo, the scan revealed that electrically, the computers are happy. No codes were stored in either the engine or transmission. Fluid level was still ok. When cold it engaged gear briefly, but not enough to make it up the hill to my driveway. Have watched some interesting You-Tube tonight.
It looks somewhat challenging in terms of keeping everything in order, but the overall procedures seem reasonable. The nice thing about most automatics, is that only basic tools are required to repair them. The interesting thing about Honda transmissions is that they do not contain planetary gearsets, like most conventional automatics. This particular trans, the BMXA is well known to be problematic due to the inadequate internal filter that cannot be changed without a full disassembly. Stupid move on Honda's part. I am going to price out the rebuild kit and a rebuilt torque converter tomorrow...

Rebuild a transmission?....sure, no problem...... for you maybe! . I hope the rebuild kits are priced right because I am looking forward to seeing your trans disassembled on the floor of your workshop

I've disassembled several complex mechanical contrivances in the past few years. I've even successfully reassembled one or two. Stan

Part of the "reassembly" thing is memory, right Tony? Stan

So a used transmission from South Island Imports is about $550. A rebuild kit for this trans, as well as a remanufactured torque converter is around $550. I am undecided at the moment to continue or not. If the rest of the car was in great shape, then I would go ahead. It is not exactly mint, so I am reluctant to get carried away. And obviously this is cutting into VW time!

Ah! The decisions of life Russ. To go or not to go, that is the question. Maybe sit down and list all the advantages of going ahead, vs the disadvantages if you don't go ahead with this project, in writing. Sleep on it and maybe the decision will be clearer in the morning. Works for me. Stan

Perhaps look at it this way...You would not go out looking for this "opportunity". It kinda landed in your lap and as you know, there are no guarantees that the problems will stop after this investment. At the end of the day you will have a fairly vanilla car with a lot of KMs on it. I'm not sure there will be much meat left on the bone by the time you work though it.
Disclaimer : Previous post is written with intrinsic bias. I would be far more interested to read of your VW victories this winter. After all, the projects are stacking up! :-)

Projects are definitely stacking up. Car is useless as it is. It will only cost time to pull the trans, and take it apart to see if it is the common plugged filter problem. I just don't want to waste a bunch more time... Have to make decision before the end of this week...

Ah c'mon Russ, you know you wanna! Just think of the experience you will gain for rebuilding the Honda's trans when Victor blows it up exploring how to do backwards donuts
