Stan for a minute there I thought you were beginning to sound like a bit of a hack until I saw the part with the cork gasket , then I realized you were a master mechanic!

Yah Tony, just give me a jig saw with a metal blade that I can snap off to the right length and I'm a master something. Stan

I would probably opt for a cleanly cut 10" square hole , just in case your calculations are off and/or you want to work on other stuff , also you can get two hands in there. I think I'd use a jigsaw with variable speed control to do a nice job without all the sparks damaging your upholstery or lighting some wayward gas/petrol on fire! Or do it right and take out the tank argh!

Don't know where this hole is your cutting but I am thinking it sounds like a job for a 4 inch hole saw nice and neat am I right would it work. T The hole he is talking about is above the fuel tank, Terry. See a version down the page here: miacvw.proboards.com/thread/169/lauries-dakota-beige-westy-ownership?page=8Not so sure I would want to risk puncturing the tank when it finally cut thru... I guess you could use a jig saw as I think there is enough space, but I'd worry about grabbing and ripping a wire. Cover everything well or hang cover cloths or heavy plastic or both(including windows!) ,use a angle grinder with a thin cut blade, and don't go thru the material very far would be the way I'd go. Still, not a fun job. Removing the firewall will give you the eyes on just where to cut. I have removed the tank before and it was NOT fun. I still have yet to put it back, but some on the samba recommend taking the bolts out of the frame/mustache bar and dropping the engine slightly(which I am going to do when putting it back in...if ever... ). The firewall only isn't too bad...

So, I've come to an agreement on buying a 79 Bus. Looks like the Riviera is going to become a Restfalia. As much as I like the Riv layout, trying to find proper cabinets found to be difficult. Plus, I really like the late bay layout. Lucky fir me is it has the cooler and not the icebox. Unlucky for me it's the brown interior, not my favourite green. Lucky for me I know a guy who has green and might just be willing to "work something out". I took the bra off and realized it's gonna need a lil tlc, so I'm gonna go find out what it's gonna cost, and get a respray. Hmmm, now what color do I go? I'm really leaning towards green, but possibly neutral and go back to original which was white. Hmmm, maybe both! Last but not least, once I saw a pic of one of these, I wanted one. Then after researching, I found out it's pretty easy and affordable What are your opinions. ps: don't worry, I know opinions are like assholes. every bodies got one, and some really stink! pps: poptop instead of a roof rack

I think we had done that in our minds already....just a natural thing for male Bay drivers... get a respray. Hmmm, now what color do I go? I'm really leaning towards green, but possibly neutral and go back to original which was white. Hmmm, maybe both! Sounds cool...maybe matt(sorry Russ it is the only way to refer to it as) as above, so the dings won't be as noticed after the gravel road miles and it chips are more easily repaired. Yes to lifted! Monster Bay! I dream about doing that to my truck one of these days, but not nearly as radical as above...

Honestly Antony ... from the start I've always moved up the ladder to owning an awesome bus. I'm feel so lucky to have been able to get your bus, even though it's not green. Right now I'm dreaming, but so far, I can actually see the dream coming true .... Now for this freaking snow to go away so I can get started

And for Don, it's matte and yes Tony, first refusal
"as for chips, and dings, I prob get more of those driving on the highway than off road" One of those things you gotta be prepared for when you actually drive your vehicle, whoooooa, bam!
