That one actually could be for sale. A little bit rough for me, though. I still would like to get my hands on a decent second generation hardtop, and nothing seems to be available...

Work? Look at that patina! All you need to do is bag it and rim it

Sooo, as many of you know, I still am dreaming of Corvairs, and have been looking to actually buy one for some time now. And naturally nothing much has come up for sale for months and months... But Santa Clause must have been listening, and brought me an early present... It is a very nice 1963 Monza coupe, with four speed transmission. And with my beloved whitewall tires too! (more on that later) The details on this SunStar 1/18 scale model are quite nice. Looks good sitting there on the shelf. And the spare is even in the correct location as well. If only I could start it up and go cruisin! Thanks, Santa Reagh for this early present!

Would you consider buying from the states? I have a few Corvair friends in Michigan who come up with finds somewhat regularly.

I have contemplated buying from the US, especially as I know someone who has done it multiple times (Don, who LOVES Customs employees). The problem is basically the exchange rate kills all chance of this. There was a VERY nice '62 Monza coupe, at a large scale classic car dealer in Phoenix that I had my eye on for some time. The price was fair ($10,000) for what looked like a beautiful condition example. The problem was after calculating all conceivable costs once on the road here, the realistic number was around $19,000, which is just not feasible. I am also one of those people that would never buy a car without seeing it in person first anyway... Hope to find one local-ish, but this may not materialize...

Still spending too much time dreaming of Corvairs. And some interesting ones have been finally popping up for sale... This one is available in nearby Surrey for $11,000. It appears to be in fine condition as well. On collector plates too, it is nicely restored with a rebuilt trans. Interior is in fine shape as well. Engine bay tidy, so is the trunk. So why didn't I buy it? Too RED! Fire Engine Red is most definitely NOT my favourite colour at all. This is too bad, because otherwise I would be happy with this mid spec Monza with automatic... But wait, something else more interesting showed up... Added pictures for my own amusement...

This is more what I would like. I really want one in one of the many Metallic colours that were available at the time. With matching interior of course. Absolutely NO black or white interiors for me... This one is Aztec Bronze, and unusual colour that looks fantastic when new and shiny.... This car is neither like new or shiny however... What it does have going for it, is it's specification. This badge says it all. This is the second most powerful engine available, the 140 horse version. And this is what makes it special. Four carburetors; freshly restored on this example... Also note the full instrumentation found on this "Corsa" model. The only version with more power than this was the turbocharged Spyder model, which I don't want. It did have 180 hp though... Interior is in very nice condition. I do likey. Note the colour matching paint in the trunk. Canadian built cars featured this, US built cars had "spatter" paint instead. Canadian cars also had body colour in the engine compartment too, while US cars did not. You know I like this too. Original paperwork, and an original BC car. So why have I not bought it yet??? Look carefully at these pics. Note what looks like rust on the RF fender and there have been many spray bomb touch-ups on the car's paint. I really don't need another full on project, but now that I am feeling a little more confident about body and paintwork, then who knows. The only problem is the price is $8500, which is not out of line for this rare car, but seems a lot when compared to the previous minty red one. Oh, and it is located a few kilometers away in REGINA! Bummer...

Forgot to mention, it does come with the original rims and hubcaps. I would throw those ugly ass alloys away in seconds...

Not a car and not what you are looking for, but kinda fits with the title of this thread. Not sure on some of Jay's "facts" as to how this compares to VW trucks.
