As much as I would love to buy a Corvair up from the States, it is just going to be too expensive. That $12,500 USD is $16332.19 before tax. There is simply no way I can afford to put this much money into one hobby car. All my other cars have been a) owned for many years when they were still cheap, b) most were less then $500, C) the most I ever paid for any car was $4000 (GTI), d) all money spent on each resto was trickled in over YEARS, e) all my daily drivers have been cars everyone else threw away. So unfortunately cars like the above green Corvair won't be in my future anytime soon, if ever. The only way I can get one, is to buy one at Canadian prices, that needs significant work, and relatively locally. The reality of my life...

Sooo, this came up for sale today... Does it look familiar??? Note the EFI sticker on the back... And here is a much better shot of the engine. If you have been following this thread, this car was for sale earlier this year and was snapped up very quickly. By another flipper unfortunately, who has the car up for $16,000, which was WAAAAY more then they paid for it... The last price was $8,500 and flippers don't like to pay full price, do they? I won't be buying it at that price and I doubt anyone else will either. The current owners ad is pretty full of BS too...

I saw that one. The owner updated his ad with a video now. It is a '66, and really needs a full body restoration and interior work. He wants $8500 for a project car. I am still hoping to find something closer to what I want... In my mind anyway...

Sooo, I have not stopped looking for Corvairs yet. Other people are looking for me too including Don. And look what he spotted on Facebook... It is a 1965 Corsa, one of the much rarer performance models. I don't mind the yellow, as my old Cougar was a similar shade. You know I have a whitewall tire fetish, and those are just the right width for me! Like the optional spoke hubcaps too. This one even has the 140 horsepower engine with the four carbs. This is the engine that I would want the most. Black is not the interior colour I would want, but notice it has the four speed trans. Mmmm. I love the lines on these second generation cars. But why is the rear panel not painted silver like most if not all Corsa models??? But more importantly WTF is that thing in the front trunk? ? WHAT? Actually Don wanted to know to and he messaged the seller and got an answer and he relayed it to me. Why don't you guys have a few guesses, and the answer will be revealed Friday night. Incidentally if this car was located in BC instead of Tumwater Washington, I would probably be making arrangements to look at it by now. The price is not unreasonable at $14,500, but then that is Yankee Buckaroos and as usual that ain't going to happen now is it???

Looks like a fantastic car but could do without the rototiller motor up front. Considering what a nice vw goes for these days that is a half reasonable price.

Its a 4 cycle single cylinder engine with a drive shaft going into the passenger compartment. maybe some kind of a generator maybe. or a vibrating foot massager that can be used on long trips. Stan

Bilge pump , battery charger , the only engine that actually moves the car , runs the airbag compressor , powers the other two wheels to make it four wheel drive , starter motor ......... 🥴

I'll be disappointed if it isn't a coffee maker. But I suspect it's someone's idea of humour.

Well the answer via Don is revealed. Dave had the closest guess, and in fact the engine under the hood is just a joke. I guess the owner was tired of answering "Where is the engine?" questions, so he installed one in the "correct" location. Probably had a lot of laughs, too. Rest of the car does look quite nice; better then many I have viewed in the last two years of looking...

I think "Car show gag" were the owner's words. I love the look of this one. It is a very similar colour to my old Ghia including the black interior. If Covid wasn't closing the borders, it would be close enough to look at in person.
