So, I finally got some weather and half a day off, so it was time to try a new voltage regulator. I tried polarizing the gen, but it still wasn't charging. A bit of a pain in the ass, but I got it changed ..... Jumped in, started her right up, then went to disconnect battery. Gotta luv the ole generators. Well, it died, telling me i wasn't fixed yet. Now to start checking the wiring. Well, low and behold, it was staring me in the face Turns out, there was a new positive cable rerouted to starter and the old connector was left dangling with a wire still attached to it. I traced wires from gen to reg, the reg to ... Oh crap, no where, lol. Attached wire, start bus, disconnect battery, and she kept purring Wooohoooo, it lives ..... and off on another road test Looking good, but stopped to visit my family and when I came out, saw quite the puddle of oil under one side. Hoping it's the valve cover gasket, after I'd set valve. I'll pick up a pair tomorrow. Unbolted rear seat, gonna give it a good cleaning and looks like I found a old westy interior to install. Guess I better start making some panels and get this bay insulated

I hate it when you write up a post and lose it. All I had left to do was post one more pic, and I lost it Anyways, I took the beast out on its maiden voyage. A trip to Parksville to see how well it ran on the highway, see if I needed to address anything else. I knew it needed valve cover gaskets, so picked them up at Bavarian, and off I went. After gaskets, fiddled with carb, checked and set timing. Sounded pretty good, and oil leak seems to have stoppped. Started rummaging thru some buses and found a wooden gear shift knob, wooden e brake handle, and wooden horn button. Just need to give them a lil tlc and they should look pretty neat The interior I'm picking up is missing a jump seat, so I borrowed one from AllTypes, so I can try and build a replica. Thank god for friends with wood work shops Reagh disappeared into his shed, and i decided to go see what he was doing, and there he was, pulling this out from a dark corner of the garage. Thanks Reagh, it's gonna look great The more I drive this, the more I'm loving it.

Thanks Mark, and yep Russ, boys and thier toys! So, today was recheck oil, check for leaks, and fiddle with carb day. It seems to be hit and miss .... so I'm leaning towards a carb rebuild. Can't quite get it to stay running proper. I'm also getting a sticky gas pedal. Took belly pan off and where the pedal meets the cable, it seems a little sloppy and catches where it comes thru the floor. Oh well, picked up some laminate at restore, and some of that sound deadening stuff wcp suggested from Rona, and cleaned up the bus. I have two weeks to get things ready for my new to me interior ...... The new front mat looks great ...... More later, struggling with PhotoBucket

Brent, you have a clean slate. It will be educational to see it all come together, I'm thinking of a new piece of linoleum flooring for my '74 and a cabinet redo as well.

Are those covers made for VW buses, or are they adapted generic versions? Looks great.

Panelled .... as for those seat covers, I didn't like the fit. Did find an awesome drivers seat that I'll be picking up with a westy interior. Guess I'll have to keep an ear open for a decent passenger seat ... Anyone?

I might have a seat for you. I have a pair of 71 seats that in my memory were in good condition, but will check them out and let you know.
