HA! Perhaps I'll compromise and just take one off. My wife really likes the eyelids but I'm looking for the bad-ass look not the cute look. That said, with the stock engine, I'm not sure I'll achieve bad-ass status either.

I left the ones that came with my bus on for about 9 years, so I'm one to talk. They had rustified on there and I coaxed them off last year.

Greetings dudes,
I have been driving my bug for some short rips in order to get the demons flushed out. Unfortunately one demon came out in the form of a small puddle of oil under the pulley. Right at the rear of the engine. I'm also getting a tiny bit of pooling on the shroud below the pulley. It's not at the point where oil is flying all over the place, but I'm sure that's where it's heading.
My plan is to remove the pulley and clean out the slingers and then...well, that's where my plan starts to fall apart. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks all! Byron

Is that a stock engine in there? Check to make sure the oil leak is not originating from the oil pressure switch. If not, you may have too much crankcase pressure, or maybe too much oil. Make sure your oil level is not over full due to fuel contamination. The scroll on the pulley may be plugged up with goop... Make sure there is not excessive pressure from the crankcase breather as well... Russ.

Thanks Russ,
Yes it is the stock engine with stock pulley. I'll check the oil pressure switch. Good idea.
How does one "Make sure there is not excessive pressure from the crankcase breather"?
Thanks again! B

With the engine warm remove the hose from the breather assembly (the hose that goes from the oil filler housing to the air cleaner). With the engine running, plug that hole next to the filler cap with your finger and hold it there for a few moments. There will likely be some pressure there as you remove your finger. If there is LOTS of pressure then you have a problem. In severe cases, plugging the hole with your finger will cause oil to come out past the pulley or dipstick tube. This would be due to excessive crankcase pressure, usually caused by worn out rings or burnt pistons...
