Got this fender painted a couple weeks ago it is fender four remember this one it was a tough one. Did a bunch of work to get it here but it needed to be stuck had a high hump on the crown. so I strapped it to the table and hit it a few times with the shrinking disk sprayed some epoxy and filled more epoxy and high fill primer found a crack fixed the crack found a low spot fixed the low spot painted the thing

That fender took a long time to fix it wasn't much fun the next one I am doing is Ron Fishers fender three it has all metal work done and good shape but I have to scrape off some underseal to get it cleaned up enough to paint. So I wanted something small and easy to paint and had just the thing. It is a 57 to 61 36hp air filter.

Ya so I had dust in the paint should have cleaned the work area better thought that it was a small job a could get away with it so I tried wet sanding and polishing compound but I went through to the primer. So sanded it again and applied 2 tablespoons of paint this time last time I did 1 plus hardener. There was too much paint so the the left over paint went on Ron Fishers fender that I am working on. There she sits. Now I guess I will paint the 57 and older filter and get that on my 56. I notice it is slightly larger.

Well I am at it today I will maybe get some paint on a couple rims I am painting 4 two are 15 inch wide five bus rims and two are bug smoothies the bus rims I will put on my green machine with some new smart car tires and the other two will go on my blue 56 you have to start somewhere. The bus rims will go on the front of my green 65 because now I have new smart car tires on there and they rub on the beam when cranked over to the side the bus rims are 3/4 inch wider than the bug but I have two of the bus rims that I ground the welds out the center section and offset the rims 1" outward and re welded. It worked I run those rims for years on the back so as to clear the rear body mount with my short axle swing on a lowered bug. Since then I have changed to a long axle swing and then they made it too wide so I put shock bus rims on they should be prefect for the front now. I will put the stock bus rims on the back with the new smart car tires that are a lower profile on the rear and that should lower the rear some and give the car a more level stance. don't let anyone fool you rims are not easy to paint if your trying to do it right there isn't a flat spot and lots and lots of corners clips and holes to sand around takes time just like anything if your trying to do it right.

these are great. Having seen the door welding and fenders on the '57 and the rims up close, I know how good they look. The wire thingy for following contours in your earlier pics is cool. You make it look easy, Terry.

You have been busy for sure! Looking forward to seeing more on how you did the A pillar and heater channel repairs as well. Glad those fenders worked out nicely too!

good reminder that things don't have to be powder-coated to look good. And be durable.
