So turned on the ignition to the run position today. Electrical interference through speakers. Lots. Grrr!

Sooo, I have tried everything possible to stop the noise interference through the speakers and failed. Today the Civic leaves the garage and goes to a professional audio shop. Hope the owner can figure it out... Getting seriously bummed out here...

Sounds like you need a filter on the power feed to the amplifier, also on the speaker wires. Your audio shop should have them. Stan

Might be the stereo unit itself?!?!

Have already tried the filter on the system. Have swapped out the head unit for the old one, and the interference persists. The noise will go away only if I connect the head unit to an auxiliary battery that is NOT attached to the car. In this situation the amps remain connected to the car battery and the noise is gone. If I jumper that auxiliary battery to the car battery, the noise comes back once the positive terminals are connected; the negative terminal has no effect. Interestingly the interference is even present with the key in the accessary position which only turns on the head unit. The hazard light switch operates via the battery, and will make obvious clicks in all the speakers... This is really irritating since this audio equipment previously worked beautifully in the Jetta that I removed it from... My theory is the old amps are happily amplifying signals they shouldn't be, but I don't have any amps to substitute. Hopefully the answer will be apparent later today, and hopefully it won't cost the big $$$!

Too little to late but try taking out one fuse at a time and seeing if a branch circuit on the accessories grouping of circuits is having a problematic feedback?!?! (obviously while the unit is running in all it's static glory)

Was at audio shop for almost 6 hours today. Main amp was faulty and replaced with a different used version. A new one was certainly out of the question at this stage. With the new one installed, the interference was gone and things seemed fine. Until the car was started... Very noticeable alternator whine. It just never ends... By this time I was desperate to leave the shop. The owner stated to charge the battery up fully first, and see if the whine goes away. I will be highly surprised if this works but was too tired to argue at the moment. So far the "free" sound system has cost me almost $700 and I am not exactly pleased about this... Hope the kid appreciates what he is getting...

Tried the fuse pull thing earlier, Tony. No effect until "radio" fuse was pulled which obviously killed everything. I certainly will not have a full aftermarket audio system in any of my other vehicles. Ever.

To no one's surprise, the alternator whine was still present after charging the battery up all night. My next step is to run the RCA cables down one side of the car, and the power source cable for the amps down the other. Depending what you read on the internet, this is absolutely mandatory, or a complete waste of time. Gotta try something at this stage. The amps and head unit will also be tied in to the same grounding point to avoid something called "ground looping". Apparently electrical differentials between different grounding points can cause interference... The last thing to try is to slowly adjust the gains lower on the amp itself. The original crossover is now disconnected as modern head units are capable of this function so one less thing to worry about. Did I mention I am real tired of this audio stuff???

Those who know me think that my parenting skills are a bit harsh.....mostly because I don't have any kids. So here's my advise. Tell jr. if he wants some crankin tunes in his free car that he should get his azz out in the shop and figure it out himself. Daddy has other stuff he would rather do than hold your hand and figure out how to make jr's favorite Maria Carey album sound. Then I would raise my hand like I'm gonna backhand some grandpappy love his way and wander off mumbling something to the effect that he is only here because of a drunkin night after a Halloween party that your mother dressed up as a naughty nurse. I'd make a fantastic father, I think......

The Honda has finally vacated the garage today... I rerouted the RCA cables down the side of the console, and the amp power cables next to the rocker panel. I found out the gain adjustment on the smaller amp that feeds the rear speakers was very touchy. Turning this adjustment down slightly also made the noise less. The funny thing is, the interference noise is not constant, it fades in and out slightly. It has been reduced to an acceptable level now, and otherwise works fine. The kid was "working" today, so did not get to share in the fun of shampooing the floormats... Other than some more polish work required on the hood, this project is considered DONE as far as I am concerned!!! So what will the next project be??? PS, I just pictured my wifey in the naughty nurse outfit.
