Probably used the ole “I’m doing a father/son thingy” , wink wink, nudge nudge, lol. I’m sure he’ll pull a “Robbie” on it and be cruising it by spring Ps; gotta paint it blue, tremclad blue!!!!

Well, not a 'father/son" approach...actually the opposite. First impression was, this is too much of a project and with respect, no thanks. Then the owner explained the 6+ year effort by her husband to completely restore this for her. Not being a VW enthusiast, he bought a Bentley manual, and in his spare time, began the process of rebuilding everything mechanical. As this car was to be her daily driver, he replaced everything with new, high quality parts. Engine, clutch, brake system (including adding rear discs), new old style tires, and gutting out the complete wiring harness and designing and installing all new system (including modern switches, panels and fuses). As for appearance, she wanted a shiny red instead of rusty orange, so he stripped everything apart and began the long process of repairing rust. Some amateur welding and lots of bondo sanding was followed by renting a paint booth and then pulling the trigger himself on a red base/clear paint job. All you backyard hobbyists know how that came out. Gotta give him an A+ for courage and effort. Everything not painted, was carefully cleaned and covered with black undercoating, similar to Por-15. Then a new headliner, custom wood slat divider shelf behind back seat, with a cnc'd First Nations image to honor his wife's heritage. Then just as he was seeing the finish line, life through them a few curves. Health issues and a new job in Victoria meant the project would fall in priority and have to be passed on to someone else to finish. After much discussion about the project and life's new direction, she made Rob an offer he could not refuse. So...short story long...Rob has a new fasty project to finish and enjoy all it's unique characteristics. If you are a purist VW guy, this little unique gem will take some time to grow on ya, to say the least...but it will. Maybe Rob will forward some pictures for Russ to post.

Hey Guys so here's the skinny on the car As most of you know I am looking for a mid to late sixties squareback but this came up online so I figured I would check it out and maybe use it as a daily driver until I find the car I want. So I made an appointment to go check it out...well after the first minute of being there Ray and I looked at each other and knew this wasnt the car for me but after 15 20 minutes of checking it out and talking with the owner she said she would be open to offers so I gave her my "I dont want to buy it price" and low and behold she accepted. A little history on it The couple bought the car so the husband could restore it and the wife could have a cool little daily driver, well 6-7 years later there it sat. The couple were moving and the car needed to go. So now its in the shop waiting for me to finish it. The pro's and cons The paint job is absolutely horrible and the bondo work is hhhmmm how can I say this very unique and interesting hahaaha you will have to see for yourself when Funbugz opens in the spring!! Now the good news Rebuilt zero mileage engine (hopefully done correct), four wheel disk brake kit installed, completely rewired from nose to tail, new headliner, four brand new tires. The entire interior needs to be put back in from carpets to door glass and then she's my daily driver until I find the car I am looking for!!! Pictures will be far and few between as I havent figured out how to get imgur to work on my phone.
Another adventure for hightopredfastyrob

No decision yet on rims, if I put turtle backs on I will need 5 ml spacers.

that's fantastic! I've always wanted a fastback. Would make a fantastic "German Look" car.
Lol at the custom wiring harness. Why is it when previous owners re-wire cars, they always buy a maximum of three rolls of wire...and the whole car ends up being wired with RED wire!

Wow. That makes the 25mm Porsche spacers I buy look economical! Lordco carries Trans Adapt 7106 which is a 4-bolt spacer, 1/4" I believe. They need to be hogged out a little to fit 4x130, but I've been running them on the rally bug for years. I can check if I still have my jig to make the job super quick on the milling machine...but I suspect I used it as raw material for my clutch conversion.
